Dubai’s culinary landscape welcomes an extraordinary addition with the opening of HANU, a refined expression of contemporary Korean cuisine that finds its home at St. Regis Gardens, Palm Jumeirah. An immersive journey through the evolution of Korea’s gastronomic artistry, HANU presents a seamless blend of tradition and innovation, each plate a bridge between past and present. Opening its doors on March 14th, the restaurant is poised to redefine the city’s understanding of Korean flavours with an experience that is as sophisticated as it is deeply rooted in heritage.

At the helm of this ambitious culinary venture is Chef Kyung Soo Moon, whose 24 years of global experience shape a menu that is as nostalgic as it is forward-thinking. HANU’s offerings are bold yet elegant, beginning with delicately composed dishes such as Korean Beef Tartare, the vibrant Raw Red Prawns, and the soul-warming Sotbab (Korean rice). More playful interpretations emerge with the Seafood Ceviche, the perfectly crisp KFC (Korean Fried Chicken), and oversized Kimbap Hand Rolls, each executed with precision and respect for tradition. The Kimchi Arancini, inspired by the chef’s childhood, reinvents a humble home-cooked dish into a delicacy, encasing a quail egg and chilli pickle within a crisp, golden shell.
For those with an appreciation for the finest cuts, the Meat Me at the Grill experience is a revelation. A bespoke, tableside charcoal grill—sourced directly from Korea—takes centre stage, where four premium cuts are prepared to perfection under the guidance of skilled waitstaff. A symphony of six fermented and pickled condiments accentuates the natural richness of the meats, while in-house sauces heighten the umami notes. The result is an intimate, interactive dining experience, designed to be savoured and shared in an atmosphere that celebrates the communal essence of Korean dining.

Complementing the menu is a curated beverage selection that brings a new dimension to the experience. An exceptional range of Soju, a rarity in Dubai, introduces diners to Korea’s cherished spirit, while wines and handcrafted cocktails are thoughtfully composed to harmonise with the intricate layers of flavour in the cuisine. Every sip is a testament to HANU’s commitment to authenticity, ensuring that each pairing is as nuanced as the dishes themselves.
The sensory journey extends beyond the palate into a setting meticulously designed to honour both Korea’s rich traditions and its contemporary evolution. Dark walnut wood, antique furnishings, and striking artworks infuse the space with warmth, while three towering Korean pine trees stand as living sculptures, lending a quiet reverence to the restaurant’s aesthetic. The terrace, set beneath a bronze and wood pergola, offers an exquisite al fresco escape, its intimate ambiance framed by iconic kimchi pots and intricate patterned screens. With seating for 44 guests outdoors and 58 within the main dining area, HANU’s design is an invitation to experience Korean culture through a lens of refined elegance. A private dining room for ten and a sophisticated lounge space for pre-dinner drinks further underscore the venue’s dedication to a holistic experience.
