Levi’s® and Denim Tears Celebrate Cultural Legacy with Fourth Collection Honoring New Orleans and the Young Seminole Hunters

May 2025 – Levi’s® and Denim Tears unveil their fourth collaborative collection, a striking homage to the vibrant traditions and deep-rooted cultural identity of New Orleans. The new collection pays tribute to the Mardi Gras Indians—specifically the Young Seminole Hunters and their Big Chief, Demond Melancon—whose handcrafted regalia and storytelling reflect generations of resilience, community, and artistry.

Building on a creative partnership grounded in cultural storytelling, this latest capsule presents eight unique pieces that blend heritage with contemporary fashion. At the heart of the collection are the Photo Trucker jacket and Photo Jeans, both featuring vivid photo prints of the Young Seminole Hunters in full ceremonial attire. More than just visual references, these garments serve as wearable documentation of a living tradition, celebrating a Black masking culture that embodies honor, pride, and history. The garments are individually processed to create deliberate imperfections—mirroring the one-of-a-kind craftsmanship seen in Mardi Gras Indian suits, which are stitched and beaded by hand for months.

The Photo Trucker adopts a relaxed, slightly cropped interpretation of Levi’s® classic Type III silhouette, while the jeans borrow their shape from the 568™ Stay Loose fit—offering a streetwear-ready take that doesn’t sacrifice cultural reverence. The use of real imagery, paired with these iconic silhouettes, deepens the storytelling and places the wearer in direct dialogue with tradition.

Further nodding to New Orleans’ aesthetic heritage, the mid-indigo Track Jacket and Track Pants introduce cotton fleur de lis motifs—symbols tied to the city’s French colonial past—combined with dark wash color-blocking. A rope-like gold piping detail, inspired by the bold uniforms of New Orleans marching bands, adds texture and flair, echoing the ceremonial energy that pulses through the city’s streets during celebration season.

A washed black Crewneck Sweatshirt and a Southern-inspired Baseball Tee expand the range. The former features the collection’s signature fleur de lis motif, while the latter evokes a sense of familial warmth and shared history with its floral gingham body and contrasting green sleeves—reminiscent of vintage picnic tablecloths and cherished community gatherings.

The accessories round out the collection with considered precision. A mid-indigo durag adorned with cotton flower prints brings personal expression and utility into the mix. Meanwhile, a photo-printed hat, crafted using the same imperfect-print technique seen in the trucker and jeans, maintains the tactile, human narrative present throughout the entire capsule.

“This collection is not about fashion for fashion’s sake,” said Tremaine Emory, founder of Denim Tears. “It’s about honoring sacred traditions that have shaped America’s cultural fabric. The Mardi Gras Indians, like the Young Seminole Hunters, are carriers of ancestral knowledge. These garments are vessels of that memory.”

Photographed in New Orleans with members of the Young Seminole Hunters, the campaign reinforces authenticity and rootedness. The setting itself becomes part of the story, grounding the collection in the geography, community, and spirit it celebrates. The visual language is one of pride—of lineage preserved and honored through modern design.

The Levi’s® x Denim Tears collaboration has consistently used fashion as a platform to explore untold stories in Black and diasporic culture. With this fourth collection, the two brands continue that mission—fusing archival inspiration and street sensibility with a commitment to amplifying cultural voices. Every stitch and silhouette reflects the soul of a people, and a city, whose influence stretches far beyond the boundaries of style.

This is more than a collection. It’s a celebration of history, heritage, and the communities that keep tradition alive.
