Bentley ushers in a new chapter of ultra-luxury innovation with the debut of its bespoke animated welcome lamp, a world-first fusion of artisanal heritage and digital artistry. What began with Mulliner’s groundbreaking work on the coachbuilt Batur has now evolved into a fully customisable lighting experience—one that transforms illumination into an expressive, personal signature for every owner. With this advancement, Bentley elevates light from a functional medium to an emotional, design-driven language, signalling a bold new direction for the marque.

This pioneering feature allows clients to curate their own animations, up to eleven seconds in length, projected elegantly onto the ground as the vehicle’s doors open. The sequences unfold in two parts—an opening gesture that welcomes the driver, followed by a fluid looping animation that continues as the cabin lighting comes alive. Each projection is crafted with the same meticulous detail Bentley applies to its wood veneers and hand-stitched hides, reflecting the brand’s belief that modern luxury lies in the harmony between craftsmanship and imagination.

Beyond aesthetics, these animations carry deeply personal meaning. Designers can bring the owner’s world to life, animating motifs found inside the cabin, recreating personalised embroidery, or even capturing sentimental symbols—a feather drifting, initials suspended in light, or a bespoke graphic inspired by a significant memory. A recent Mulliner commission for Bucharest’s Romanian Athenaeum, blending musical notes with embroidered detailing, demonstrates just how poetic this new medium can be.

Behind the artistry lies remarkable technology. At the heart of the system is an 8 mm² Digital Micromirror Device containing 415,800 mirrors, each one just 16 microns wide. These microscopic, rapidly shifting mirrors sculpt light with extraordinary precision, moving thousands of times per second to compose a fluid image. A suite of lenses, prisms and coloured light sources works in unison to project the final animation—a testament to Bentley’s ability to merge cutting-edge engineering with a soft, almost cinematic elegance.
