In 1886, Carl Benz introduced the world to the automobile. Nearly 140 years later, Mercedes-Benz marks that milestone with a car that continues to define the pinnacle of automotive luxury.
The new S-Class represents the most comprehensive update within a single generation. More than 50 per cent of its components—approximately 2,700 in total—have been newly developed or extensively re-engineered. The result is not simply a facelift, but a reinvention that reinforces the S-Class’s status as the world’s best-selling luxury saloon.
A New Era of Presence and Light
For the first time in its history, the S-Class features an optionally illuminated Mercedes star on the bonnet. Complementing this is a grille enlarged by around 20 per cent and redesigned with three-dimensional chrome stars, establishing a more assertive stance.
The next-generation digital light headlamps introduce micro-LED technology that expands the high-resolution illumination field by approximately 40 per cent. With ultra range high beam reaching up to 600 metres, visibility is significantly enhanced, while intelligent partial high-beam functionality improves detection of road users without dazzling others.
At the rear, signature three-star taillights reinforce identity, while an integrated light projector in the side sill trim casts “Mercedes-Benz” lettering onto the ground—transforming every arrival into theatre.
MB.OS: The Supercomputer Behind Every Drive
At the technological core lies MB.OS, the purpose-built Mercedes-Benz Operating System. Designed as a new service-oriented electronic architecture, MB.OS functions as a high-performance supercomputer connecting assistance systems, infotainment and driving dynamics into one intelligent ecosystem.
Linked to the Mercedes-Benz Intelligent Cloud, MB.OS enables over-the-air updates for numerous vehicle functions, ensuring the S-Class remains digitally current throughout its lifecycle.
The fourth generation of MBUX debuts here, powered by generative AI including ChatGPT-based technology and Google integrations. The “Hey Mercedes” Virtual Assistant now supports multi-turn dialogue with contextual memory, appearing as a dynamic avatar on the Zero Layer interface.
Navigation is elevated through MBUX Surround Navigation based on Google Maps, integrating real-time 3D visualisations with driver assistance data and augmented-reality head-up display projections.
MB.DRIVE: Intelligence in Motion
Equipped with ten external cameras, five radar sensors and twelve ultrasonic sensors, the S-Class deploys an extensive sensor suite managed by high-performance computing.
Standard MB.Drive Assist includes features such as Distance Assist Distronic, Steering Assist and Lane Change Assist. MB.D adds enhanced functions including automated braking at stop signs and traffic lights, as well as seamless point-to-point support in dense urban environments in selected markets.
Parking assistance now detects spaces earlier and enables angled parking for the first time, even assisting with exit manoeuvres after manual parking.
A Boardroom on Wheels
Rear-seat luxury reaches new heights. In its long-wheelbase configuration, the four-seat First-Class rear compartment transforms the S-Class into a mobile business lounge.
Dual 13.1-inch displays anchor the MBUX High-End Rear Seat Entertainment system, complemented by detachable MBUX remote controls. Integrated HD cameras allow seamless participation in video conferencing platforms such as Microsoft Teams, Zoom and Webex.
Streaming services including Disney+ are accessible directly via the infotainment system in supported markets, while the optional Burmester® High-End 4D surround sound system with Dolby Atmos® delivers up to 39 speakers and tactile seat transducers—creating an immersive acoustic experience that can be both heard and felt.
MANUFAKTUR: The Art of Individuality
For clients seeking true distinction, the MANUFAKTUR programme offers more than 150 exterior colours and over 400 interior colour options.
Two new shades—Manufaktur black sparkling, incorporating genuine glass flakes, and Manufaktur verdesilver magno—join the palette. Through Manufaktur Made to Measure, clients can consult experts at the Sindelfingen Center of Excellence or at a location of their choice to craft a truly bespoke S-Class.
Illuminated door sills, bespoke steering-wheel configurations and curated emblem packages further refine personalisation.
Electrified Performance
The new S-Class range includes refined six- and eight-cylinder petrol engines, diesel options and a plug-in hybrid. At the top of the standard line-up, the S 580 4MATIC long version produces 395 kW (537 hp) and 750 Nm of torque, supported by mild-hybrid technology for seamless power delivery and energy recuperation.
Ride comfort remains exemplary. Airmatic suspension or optional E-Active Body Control with intelligent damping smooths longer undulations, while standard 4.5° rear-axle steering—optionally up to 10°—enhances agility despite the car’s generous proportions.
First-Class Comfort and Wellbeing
Interior refinements extend to everyday functionality. A redesigned centre console allows dual wireless smartphone charging, while USB-C ports deliver up to 100 W power output. Innovations include massage functions based on vibration motors in the seat cushion and the body sound transmission of the Burmester® High-End 4D Surround Sound System, which makes deep tones physically perceptible. This direct transfer of sound into the seats adds a fourth dimension to the already three-dimensional listening experience – true 4D sound, inspired by sound-bowl massage.
A new heated seat belt for front occupants offers warmth up to 44°C, enhancing both comfort and optimal belt fit. Digital Vent Control automatically adjusts illuminated air vents based on personalised climate profiles.
An advanced electric air filter integrated into energising air control ionises and removes ultrafine particles, purifying cabin air approximately every 90 seconds.
The S 680 GUARD: Protection Without Compromise
For those requiring elevated security, the S 680 GUARD 4MATIC delivers certified VR10 ballistic protection—the highest civilian protection level. Integrating an in-house developed protection system with discreet aluminium outer skin, it remains the only series-production limousine offering certified VR10 protection for both glass and bodywork ex factory.
Powered by a 6.0-litre V12 biturbo engine and equipped with 4MATIC all-wheel drive, it combines uncompromising security with hallmark S-Class refinement.
