Honoring Two Decades of Excellence
Maserati pays tribute to its storied racing heritage with the introduction of the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, two special edition series commemorating the 20th anniversary of the legendary MC12. After a 37-year hiatus, Maserati’s triumphant return to the racing scene in 2004 with the MC12 set a new standard in GT championships. Inspired by this iconic model, the MC20 series continues the tradition of excellence with a modern twist.
The Birth of a Legend: The MC12
Launched in 2004, the MC12 marked Maserati’s return to competitive racing. This road car quickly became a benchmark in GT championships, leaving an indelible mark on the track. Fast forward to 2020, Maserati introduced the MC20, a super sports car powered by the innovative V6 Nettuno engine, heralding a new era for the brand.
Limited Editions: The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda
To celebrate this milestone, Maserati has created the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda, each limited to 20 units. These special editions boast exclusive liveries and features inspired by the MC12 Stradale and the MC12 GT1 Vitaphone, respectively.
MC20 Icona: A Tribute to an Icon
The MC20 Icona’s livery recalls the iconic 2004 MC12 Stradale, itself a tribute to the Maserati Trofeo Light, which raced in the 24 Hours of Daytona. The Bianco Audace Matte and Blu Stradale colors, along with exclusive details from the Fuoriserie personalization program, create a refined and unique aesthetic. The Maserati Fuoriserie logo and the Italian flag adorn the sides, while chrome-plated wheels with blue brake calipers and carbon fiber engine covers enhance its distinctiveness.
MC20 Leggenda: Honoring a Champion
The MC20 Leggenda celebrates the award-winning MC12 GT1, famed for its successes with the Vitaphone Racing team. Its Nero Essenza and Digital Mint Matte livery echoes the GT1’s unmistakable colors.
The car features trident wheels in Nero Lucido with Digital Mint hubcaps, yellow Trident logos, and black brake calipers. The racing-inspired interior includes lightweight monocoque seats and personalized embroidery.
Engineering Excellence and Exclusive Features
Both the MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda are powered by the potent Nettuno engine. Special badges on the engine cover denote their exclusivity. The interiors are outfitted with Sonus faber sound systems, carbon fiber packages, electronic limited-slip differentials (E-LSD), suspension lifters, and advanced safety features. The meticulous attention to detail ensures these cars are as functional as they are beautiful.
Legacy of the MC12
The MC12 not only marked Maserati’s return to racing but also set new records. Between 2004 and 2010, the MC12 GT1 clinched 27 victories in the FIA GT Championships, including three wins at the 24 Hours of Spa, and secured multiple team, driver, and constructor championships. Designed by Giorgetto Giugiaro and powered by a Ferrari-derived V12 engine, the MC12 remains the fastest production car Maserati has ever produced.
Passing the Baton
The MC20 Icona and MC20 Leggenda are more than just cars; they are symbols of Maserati’s enduring legacy and commitment to excellence. They represent a passing of the baton from the legendary MC12 to a new generation of super sports cars, continuing Maserati’s tradition of pushing the boundaries of performance and design.
