Every Summer, The Mark Hotel in Manhattan makes available its custom-built 70-foot Herreshoff sailboat for private charter. Christened The Mark, this rare sailboat offers a truly exclusive way to spend a luxurious summer evening in New York City.
The sailboat was originally built in 1921, and designed by the renowned naval architect Nathanael Greene Herreshoff. Known for his balanced style and exceptional engineering mind, Herreshoff penned no less than six America’s Cup defending yachts. One of the last Herreshoff 70-footers still in existence, The Mark has a solid mahogany hull and Indian teak decks. The Mark Hotel’s signature black and white stripes grace the sailboat’s bespoke sail and cushions.
Setting sail from Tribeca’s North Cove Marina, the beautiful vintage sailing vessel will make a two-hour journey southward through the iconic New York Harbor. The sailboat is spacious enough to accommodate up to 25 guests, ideal for a close-knit group of friends and loved ones to enjoy breathtaking views of the Manhattan skyline and the Statue of Liberty.
It has a full roster of staff – a captain, two crew members, and two servers. For those planning an intimate open-air wedding on the nautical nature, The Mark’s Wedding Officiant can come on board for a ceremony on the sea.
During the journey, guests are treated to an exquisite array of gourmet bites curated by Chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten and the hotel’s Caviar Kaspia restaurant, paired with wines selected by The Mark’s Head Sommelier. Some of the famed delicacies include tuna tartare crostini, smoked salmon sandwiches with dill creme, oysters on the half shell, spiced chicken samosas with cilantro yoghurt, baby tomatoes and goat cheese on skewers, and colourful crudité.
The Mark Hotel is a multi-award-winning luxury hotel, situated at Madison Avenue, near Central Park. Resplendent in its Renaissance Revival style architecture, the hotel first opened its doors in 1927. The interior was refreshed for a more contemporary look by French designer Jacques Grange in 2009. A Polished black-and-white floor dominates its dramatic lobby, along with contemporary light fixtures, furniture, and modern art.
The hotel offers 106 hotel rooms and 47 suites. The Mark Penthouse, designed by Jacques Grange and unveiled in 2015, is the largest hotel suite in the US. Located on the 16th and 17th floors, it has five bedrooms, eight bathrooms, a large hall, a library, a formal dining room, a gourmet kitchen, four fireplaces, a private skating rink, and a 2,500 square-foot private terrace overlooking the Manhattan Skyline and Central Park.
The building hosts two renowned restaurants: Jean Georges and the New York branch of Caviar Kaspia. It also boasts a Frédéric Fekkai salon, John Lobb shoe care services, and an exclusive scent by Frédéric Malle. The hotel, and its penthouse in particular, is a favourite among celebrities, royals and titans of industry. The hotel’s lobby is a coveted location for Met Gala attendees to reveal their themed outfits prior to the event.
