Bottega Veneta’s FW18 Men’s Accessories Collection

  • August 29, 2018
  • 2 minute read

This season, Bottega Veneta presented its Fall-Winter 2018 collection at the New York Fashion Week. This shift is for one season only and was done to celebrate the opening of the maison’s new flagship store at 740 Madison Avenue. The venue for the event was the American Stock Exchange.

With its long-time motto “When your own initials are enough,” Bottega Veneta has always celebrated fierce individualism. This idea takes flight in this year’s fall-winter collection’s homage to the spirit of New Yorkers; free to fearlessly express themselves in a city that’s seen everything.

“New Yorkers have real bravery and boldness,” says Tomas Maier, Bottega Veneta’s Creative Director. “Nothing stops them. Nothing seems impossible.”

The overarching vision of the season is rooted in architecture, a long-time passion of Tomas Maier and a defining ideal of the brand. The collection draws inspiration from the iconic and modern structures that are unmistakably New York. From there, Maier extracts the detail of the cube as a motif that weaves its way through the collection. “It’s like a brick,” says Maier. “We use it to build the foundation.”

The perfect simplicity of the geometric form of the Cube is utilised to create graphic patterns with surreal shifting perspectives. The cube is an evolution of The Intrecciato Checker square introduced last spring which has continued into the current collection. The men’s Intrecciato Checker Totes of spring are recast for fall in bolder colours. The most compelling new men’s bag for fall, however, comes in solid nappa. The MI-NY is a shoulder duffle designed with thoughtful and instinctive functionality to be the ultimate travel bag.

The Intrecciato Abstract art design has also been introduced by Bottega Veneta on pieces such as the Tambura bag, small tote and key rings. The iconic Cabat bag is seen in pompom appliqués and initials. The collection as a whole features new styles alongside some of the classics. Leather features prominently, alongside exotics such as crocodile, anaconda and ostrich.
