Givenchy’s FW2020 Antigona Soft Bags For Men

In 2010, the year Apple debuted its segment-defining iPad, at Givenchy, a similar segment-defining product was launched under the directorship of Riccardo Tisci – the much-beloved Antigona bag. In the past ten years, the bag has been a mainstay of the brand which, in the world of fashion, is an incredible achievement, when measured by any yardstick.

This year, to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the bestseller, Givenchy unveiled the Antigone soft collection for women as part of the Fall-Winter 2020 runway in Paris; as a natural extension to this season’s mood. Now, for the first time and as part of the Fall-Winter 2020 men’s collection, the House of Givenchy has adapted the aesthetics of the new Antigona Soft bag for the Givenchy man.

Named in honour of the ancient Greek heroine Antigone because, like her, Antigona bag features a structurally strong feminine silhouette but with an almost masculine allure.

At a glance, the family resemblance is clear. Like the classic Antigona, the Antigona Soft is based on rigorous geometry and purity of line, transposed into a suppler construction. Inspired by Givenchy’s dual signature, the new men’s bag blends the subtle sensuality found in the women’s style, which has now been enhanced with more generous, masculine proportions.

Designed to be carried in flexibility ways – a tote thanks to its tubular double handles or slung over the shoulders with its removable shoulder strap – the Antigona Soft is sophisticated yet versatile. Gliding seamlessly from everyday use to weekender or extended getaways, it comes in a large size (in black or sand beige). There is also a maxi size in woven black, white and red leather; in the Givenchy chains print on wool or in timeless black calf leather. Practical features include a removable shoulder strap for extra versatility, two spacious zipped compartments, and a zipped inner pocket. Two outer handles with turn-lock hardware add to its refined allure.

The Antigona Soft maxi bag for men debuts in Givenchy boutiques from September 2020 onwards.
