Evocative of the grit and glamour of Berlin on the cusp of the 1980s, the Givenchy Fall-Winter 2018-19 Men’s Ready-To-Wear collection designed by Clare Waight Keller materialises in a razor-cut silhouette that gradually expands into spirited volumes.
Shiny and metallic surfaces galvanise monochrome colouration and solidify in the tones of petrol: black, tobacco, oily blue, peacock, and deep purple. Informed by the haute couture collection, crisp dry-wool and leather tailoring is sharp and narrow in column coats and long lengths. Asymmetry and button embellishment nod at house codes.
Reflecting the brutalism of Berlin, accessories draw on a metropolitan fusion of glamour and functionality. Magnified cube rings appear metallic and tough. Sock and zip boots, micro-strap sandals and graphic pumps complement pointed men’s boots with heavy zips.
