A Taste of Khareef: Chef Nouel Catis Brings Chocolate Artistry to Salalah

In a lush pocket of southern Oman where monsoon mist clings to coconut groves and frankincense lingers in the air, a new flavour story is unfolding. Al Baleed Resort Salalah by Anantara has partnered with acclaimed Dubai-based patissier Chef Nouel Catis to unveil a limited-edition chocolate creation that captures the essence of the Dhofar region — one indulgent bite at a time.

Introducing The Anantara Khareef Chocolate — a handcrafted delicacy that draws on Salalah’s tropical beauty and deep-rooted heritage. Layered with coconut katayef and perfumed with the unmistakable warmth of Omani frankincense, this seasonal confection is a celebration of terroir and tradition. It is delicate, aromatic, and quietly bold — much like the landscape that inspired it.

Available exclusively at Al Mina, the resort’s Mediterranean beachside venue, the chocolate will be offered throughout the Khareef season. More than a dessert, it’s a sensory experience that tells the story of place through the language of patisserie — a hallmark of Chef Nouel’s craft. Known for reimagining heritage through flavour, his creations have captured regional attention since his pistachio kunafa chocolate first went viral.

This collaboration also introduces a second sweet offering: the Coconut Malva Cake, a tender, comforting dessert with nostalgic notes that contrast beautifully with the exotic intrigue of the chocolate.

Chef Nouel, who launched his namesake brand and its sister concept Sna’ap in 2024, brings more than a decade of experience to this venture. His work bridges culinary innovation with cultural narrative, making him a natural fit for Anantara’s philosophy of immersive, locally inspired luxury.

“We are delighted to welcome Chef Nouel Catis to our tropical paradise for this exclusive collaboration,” says Andrea Orrù, General Manager at Al Baleed Resort. “His ability to infuse local elements with global culinary trends perfectly aligns with our commitment to offering guests truly unique and memorable experiences during the Khareef season.”

As misted palms sway under the seasonal rains and guests gather to taste something extraordinary, the collaboration between Al Baleed Resort and Chef Nouel stands as a quiet testament to the power of flavour — to express identity, memory, and place.
