On 22 May, RM Sotheby’s inaugural Milan auction at the iconic Fonderia Macchi Carlo promises to deliver a blend of design, engineering, and artistry with one of the event’s most eye-catching lots—a bespoke Ferrari 360 Modena Engine Coffee Table. Set amid a backdrop that has recently hosted fashion shows by Gucci and Valentino, this stunning creation is poised to steal the spotlight as a collector’s dream and a true conversation piece.

Estimated at €15,000 to €25,000, the coffee table is built around a genuine Tipo F131 3.6-litre V8 engine and automated ‘F1’ gearbox from a Ferrari 360 Modena. The design features a two-tiered tabletop composed of 19mm tempered glass, with the upper surface measuring 170 by 100 centimetres. Standing 67.5 centimetres tall and weighing an impressive 220 kilograms, this is not just furniture—it’s automotive sculpture.

Stamped with Ferrari engine number 56611, the table incorporates the marque’s unmistakable aesthetic cues, including a red intake manifold, Prancing Horse logos, and detailed valve covers. A sleek, integrated LED lighting system, controlled remotely, allows for colour changes that illuminate the manifolds and a plaque listing the engine specifications—making this not only a striking centerpiece but also a celebration of precision engineering.

The engine at the core of this creation was acquired by the current consignor around a decade ago. Over approximately 600 painstaking hours, it was transformed into a functional artwork. Internal mechanical components were removed to reduce weight without compromising its visual power, and the remaining parts were meticulously polished and lacquered for lasting protection. The intake manifolds were custom-built from stainless steel, paying tribute to early 2000s Ferrari Formula 1 design. Meanwhile, the glass top was shaped to evoke the silhouette of a high-performance vehicle.

This unique piece offers more than just visual appeal—it brings the spirit of Maranello into the home, seamlessly merging the worlds of motorsport, luxury design, and contemporary craftsmanship. As a striking embodiment of Ferrari’s DNA in a new context, this table exemplifies how the lines between function and form, automotive and art, continue to blur in exciting new ways.
