Bugatti and Jacob & Co. Unveil the Tourbillon: A Fusion of Hypercar and Haute Horology

In Molsheim, where Bugatti has long crafted some of the world’s most breathtaking cars, a new chapter unfolds that marries high-performance engineering with the artistry of haute horology. The Bugatti Tourbillon hypercar is joined by two extraordinary Jacob & Co. creations—the Bugatti Tourbillon and the Bugatti Tourbillon Baguette—marking one of the most seamless collaborations between automotive innovation and fine watchmaking to date.

The idea is deceptively simple yet exquisitely executed: a car and a timepiece designed in unison, sharing not only a name but also a philosophy. Just as Bugatti has rewritten the rulebook of hypercars with the Tourbillon, Jacob & Co. has reinterpreted horology with a timepiece that echoes the car’s DNA down to its smallest detail. It is the kind of partnership that feels inevitable in hindsight, bringing two worlds of obsessive craftsmanship into a single orbit.

The Bugatti Tourbillon timepiece is more than a tribute—it is a mechanical theater on the wrist. Inside its sapphire crystal case beats an automaton inspired by Bugatti’s V16 engine, complete with 16 titanium pistons and a 22.37 mm crankshaft, one of the longest in contemporary watchmaking. At the press of a button, the miniature engine roars to life in a hypnotic ballet of motion, blurring the line between utility and artistry. The effect is as much emotional as it is technical, reminding wearers of the visceral thrill that defines Bugatti’s automobiles.

Design cues are unmistakably automotive. The watch’s dial recalls the hypercar’s instrument cluster, with a 30-second flying tourbillon on the left and a power reserve indicator on the right, mirroring RPM and fuel gauges. Even the case itself, with sapphire crystal side windows and etched grille patterns, is a miniature homage to the Tourbillon’s sculpted silhouette. At 52 x 44 mm, it is unapologetically bold, much like the car that inspired it.

Where the Tourbillon timepiece emphasizes engineering marvel, the Bugatti Tourbillon Baguette pushes into the realm of high jewelry. Crafted from 18K white gold and encrusted with 328 baguette-cut diamonds and 18 rubies, it is a dazzling reinterpretation of performance through precious stones. The rubies, set with Jacob & Co.’s signature invisible technique, evoke the hypercar’s taillights, ensuring that even in stillness, the watch radiates speed and drama. With 17 carats of diamonds, it represents not just timekeeping but wearable architecture—luxury redefined at the intersection of gem-setting and mechanical ingenuity.

This dual launch underscores a growing trend in the luxury world: the fusion of automotive and horological design as complementary expressions of human creativity. Where once collaborations might have been limited to branding exercises, Bugatti and Jacob & Co. are charting new territory by designing across disciplines from the ground up. The result is a symbiosis where each product amplifies the other, a philosophy of continuity rather than mere partnership.

Beyond aesthetics, both the hypercar and the watches embody an obsession with pushing boundaries. For Bugatti, that means a hypercar engineered to recalibrate performance benchmarks. For Jacob & Co., it means creating the fastest-ever 30-second flying tourbillon, alongside an engine automaton unprecedented in complexity. Together, they remind the luxury world that innovation does not exist in isolation but flourishes at the crossroads of disciplines.

Exclusivity, of course, defines both creations. Only 18 examples of the diamond-clad Bugatti Tourbillon Baguette will ever be made, while the Tourbillon hypercar itself will remain the preserve of a handful of collectors. Yet in their rarity lies their true value: not mass appeal, but a promise of uniqueness for those who seek objects that transcend category.

As Bugatti’s Managing Director Wiebke Ståhl reflects, both the car and the watches are destined to endure as heirlooms, passed down not just as possessions but as works of art. They are more than machines of movement—they are narratives of passion, precision, and the unrelenting pursuit of excellence. For Bugatti and Jacob & Co., the Tourbillon is not simply a project. It is a declaration that when engineering genius and watchmaking artistry meet, time itself becomes a luxury to behold.
