Salvatore Ferragamo’s visionary creativity has always been fuelled by the riches of Florence and its surroundings. The house’s new collection of perfumes, titled Tuscan Creations, celebrates this bond with eleven fragrances created by seven of the best maître parfumeurs using precious and rare materials.
Rinascimento by Alex Lee “is an elegant, flowery perfume inspired by the ancient symbol of Florence, the lily.” The top notes are a mix of Italian mandarine, basil and green pepper. The lily is in the middle with iris butter while Sandalwood, orcanox and the vetiver form the base.
Bianco di Carrara is by Alexandra Carlin, who “wanted to capture the essence, the luminosity and enchantment of the stone, its timeless allure.” The top notes are from Calabrian bergamot, white pepper and powdery ambrette seeds. The middle is a floral mix of violet, iris and white heliotrope. The base is amber, Tonka and white suede.
Punta Ala by Alberto Morillas offers “endless views, hypnotic horizons, bright colours… of the Italian coast,” which is captured with the top notes from bergamot, lemon, mandarin orange and neroli bigarade, followed by jasmine and paradisone enhanced by olive leaves. The base is cedarwood, vetiver, patchouli and crystalline musks.
Sonia Constant, who created Viola Essenziale, says “creating these notes was like immersing myself in Tuscany… at sunset. My senses were enthralled by heliotrope and enchanted by the lilies.” The two are found in the middle note along with iris while the top notes come from mimosa, vine peaches and lychees. The base notes are vetiver, patchouli and vanilla.
Terra Rossa by Domitille Bertier “pays tribute to the unique energy of Siena’s sun-burnt earth.” The top notes are bergamot and bitter orange and rose. In the heart are cypress, laudanum resin and patchouli. The base notes are Ambertonic, amber and tonka beans.
La Commedia by Natalie Gracia-Cetto “is like the breath of a mysterious fire emerging from Dante’s extraordinary world.” The top notes are orange peel, grapefruit and cardamom. In the middle are akigalawood, nutmeg and chilli pepper. Tonka bean, amber wood, vetiver root and leather form its base.
Fabrice Pellegrin has created five fragrances for the collection. Convivio “captures the magnificent, warm soul of Tuscany, a region where life is all about extraordinary moments of hospitality, sharing and joie de vivre.” The top notes are Italian bergamot, grapefruit and carrot seeds, followed by cypress wood, jasmine petals and violet wood. The base notes are cashmere wood, frankincense and ambrox.
Calimala pays homage to “the Calimala guild, a window into far-off promised lands, sumptuous treasures, spices and fabrics with which the florentines filled their flamboyant markets.” The top notes are roses, Brazilian oranges and cardamom. The middle features centifolia rose, damask rose, and orange blossom. The base notes are suede, black vanilla and cyperus.
Vendemmia reminds Pellegrin “of a vineyard where dozens of harvesters dance in the golden light of a late afternoon.” Its top notes are citrus and Italian bergamot, enhanced by vine peaches. In the middle are Italian mandarin, orange blends, jasmine blossom and fig. Base notes are ambrox, sandalwood, and tonka bean.
La Corte pays homage to the “refinement and opulence” of the Medici family with Indian jasmine, almond milk, freesia and white lily as the top notes, followed by Madagascar jasmine, and white lily. The base notes are white amber, cashmere wood and bourbon vanilla. With Testa di Moro, Pellegrin “wanted to recreate the atmosphere of a workshop,” with pink pepper and dried fruits as the top notes, followed by leather, saffron and patchouli. The base notes are styrax, sandalwood, and mate.
