Bugatti introduces the W16 Mistral ‘La Perle Rare’, a one-of-a-kind roadster that represents the ultimate expression of the legendary W16 era. Crafted through Bugatti’s Sur Mesure personalization program, the hypercar transforms engineering excellence into a profoundly personal work of automotive art. Combining performance, heritage, and meticulous craftsmanship, the creation reflects Bugatti’s dedication to individuality and design mastery.
The journey toward this bespoke masterpiece began during the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in 2023, where Bugatti’s Sur Mesure team first met the client behind the vision. What followed was a collaborative design process driven by shared ambition and refined taste. Designers worked closely with the client to develop a sculptural aesthetic that enhances the natural elegance of the W16 Mistral while introducing a unique visual identity.
At the heart of the concept lies a pearlescent theme inspired by Bugatti’s signature hand-painted ‘Vagues de Lumière’ finish. This approach reflects the way Bugatti hyper sports cars interact with light, creating fluid reflections across their surfaces. The resulting design introduces a harmonious two-tone composition that visually separates the car’s upper and lower sections, echoing the interplay between sky and earth.
Achieving the final color palette required extensive experimentation by Bugatti’s color specialists. The design ultimately evolved into two entirely bespoke tones: a warm, gold-infused shade defining the upper bodywork and a refined warm white enveloping the lower surfaces. Together, these hues create a luminous and sophisticated presence that enhances the roadster’s sculpted lines.
The signature white-and-gold dividing lines are among the most intricate elements of the car’s design. Developed by the Bugatti Design Studio in Berlin, the process required meticulous masking, hand-applied detailing, and weeks of precision painting. Hundreds of hours of craftsmanship were devoted to ensuring the flowing lines moved seamlessly across the bodywork, embodying the meticulous artistry associated with the Bugatti name.
Inside the cabin, the pearl-inspired aesthetic continues through a carefully curated interior. Carbon components are finished in white, creating a jewel-like cockpit that mirrors the exterior’s elegance. Door panels feature alternating gold and white linework following sculpted surfaces, while polished aluminum accents across the steering wheel, center console, and controls reflect light with refined brilliance.
The car’s identity is further reinforced by the signature ‘La Perle Rare’, handwritten by Bugatti designer Jascha Straub and integrated into multiple elements throughout the vehicle. An homage to Bugatti’s heritage appears through the iconic Dancing Elephant motif by Rembrandt Bugatti, subtly incorporated into both the cockpit and exterior panels. Together, these details unite personal expression with historic craftsmanship, completing a hypercar that embodies the spirit of Bugatti’s Sur Mesure philosophy.
