MINI JCW x Deus Ex Machina – Where Motorsport Meets Creative Craftsmanship

The worlds of motorsport and creative craftsmanship converge in an exhilarating collaboration between MINI John Cooper Works (JCW) and the lifestyle brand Deus Ex Machina. Together, they unveil two exclusive one-off cars – each a tribute to speed, design, and culture. Drawing from MINI’s celebrated racing heritage and Deus Ex Machina’s passion for bespoke craftsmanship, the partnership is a bold expression of shared enthusiasm, bringing distinct design, function, and innovation to life.

The collaboration introduces two unique vehicles: The Skeg – a sleek, electric MINI JCW, inspired by surf culture, and The Machina – a combustion-powered MINI JCW that celebrates the raw mechanics and motorsport spirit of MINI. Each car embodies a refined aesthetic rooted in authenticity, visible seams, and bold contrasts. From materials like fiberglass and neoprene to vintage toggle switches and mechanical levers, the design champions the beauty of imperfection and celebrates function over gloss.

The Skeg draws on coastal living with features such as a Flex Tip Surf Spoiler and semi-transparent panels that reduce weight, enhancing aerodynamics. Inside, tactile controls, practical storage solutions, and neoprene upholstery evoke the rhythms of surf culture. The Machina, meanwhile, pays homage to MINI’s racing roots with widened fenders, rally-inspired lighting, and a diffuser modeled after the legendary Nordschleife race circuit. Inside, aluminum floor plates and five-point harnesses echo a purist, performance-driven mindset.

Both vehicles are unified by a striking ‘X’ motif, symbolizing their partnership and shared philosophy. Crafted with artisanal precision, each design element is chosen for its performance, emotional appeal, and narrative resonance. Whether it’s a roof strap reminiscent of tying down a surfboard or a Can-Am style spoiler referencing rally sport nostalgia, these vehicles are stories on wheels – celebrating the cultures that inspire them.

The partnership extends beyond the cars, with a capsule apparel collection launching at IAA Mobility 2025. Drawing on the DNA of both brands, the clothing range emphasizes precision engineering, timeless styling, and uncompromising attention to detail. Every piece reflects a deep understanding of storytelling through design, bridging motorsport culture with modern fashion.

The collaboration’s debut event, MINI JCW x Deus Ex Machina Night, will premiere on 6 September 2025 at the MINI Pavilion in Munich. The vehicles and apparel collection will be on display until 14 September, offering enthusiasts a rare glimpse into a partnership defined by passion, performance, and cultural connection.

With MINI’s commitment to innovation and Deus Ex Machina’s reverence for craft, this collaboration is more than a design project – it’s a manifesto for those who live and breathe the thrill of the ride. “You can be first after me,” they say – an invitation to join a journey where creativity meets speed, and design transcends convention.
