Montblanc’s ‘Rouge et Noir’ legacy revisited

As part of their Heritage Collection: Rouge & Noir, Montblanc have released three new limited and special edition pens, along with their accompaniments.

The collection reimagines and pays homage to one of the first product lines created by the founders of Montblanc in 1909.

Inspired by the French literary classic “Rouge et Noir” by Stendhal, the pens of the original collection were made of black ebonite with a red cap top. The new collection reinterprets the classic both in form and function. It has a new size and shape, enhanced writing features for a more luxurious writing experience, and includes the modern piston technology.

The serpent of the first edition is replaced by the spider in the latest iteration. The spider is symbolic of the author who artfully weaves words into an intricate web of poetry. It is also a recurring Montblanc design motif since the 1920s. The spider weaves its intricate web around the top of the writing instrument from which descends the pen’s elegant clip. The spider motif is also found on the rhodium-plated Au 585 gold nib.

The Montblanc Heritage Rouge & Noir Spider Metamorphosis Special Edition has a barrel made of highly polished precious resin while the cap is crafted from lacquer, both finished in black. As a vivid contrast to this black is the Special Edition Coral. Its barrel and cap are made from vivid coral resin and lacquer evoking a colour reminiscent of the early 1900s. Champagne tone gold-coated fittings complement the coral colour, and the spider clip is adorned with orange coloured synthetic stones representing the gaze of the arachnid’s eyes.

The Montblanc Heritage Rouge & Noir Spider Metamorphosis Limited Edition 1906 is limited to the same number as the year Montblanc was founded. It is made of silver, delicately engraved with the spider web design. The spider adorns the rhodium-coated Au 750 gold nib, while the spider clip is decorated with rubies adding intensity to the creature’s eyes.

To complement the Rouge & Noir Heritage Collection, Montblanc has introduced special ink and refills in a grey inspired by the colour of the spider web, a black saffiano leather notebook with black floqué spiders applied on the cover, and for first time, an adult colouring book inspired by the animals used by the Maison over its 110 years of history with a focus on the two most important animals from the Montblanc history: serpents and spiders.

The Rouge & Noir Spider Metamorphosis and Limited Edition 1906 are available in Montblanc boutiques.
