Tracing the Sacred Echoes of Champa: Anantara’s Immersive Journey Through Central Vietnam

A journey through Vietnam often begins in the present—noodle stalls, motorbikes, the buzz of modern life—but Anantara’s new five-day, four-night Heritage of Champa Kingdom experience invites travellers to slip quietly into the past. Offered in collaboration between Anantara Hoi An Resort and Anantara Quy Nhon Villas, the itinerary reawakens the ancient spirit of the Champa civilisation through art, architecture, and a sublime blend of luxury and cultural immersion.

The experience begins along the Thu Bon River at Anantara Hoi An, a colonial-style retreat just steps from the lantern-lit UNESCO World Heritage streets of Hoi An. With Chinese shophouses, Japanese bridges, and ochre-toned French villas as the backdrop, guests are guided deeper still into history with a private excursion to My Son Sanctuary. This once-sacred valley of red-brick temples—dating back as far as the 4th century CE—served as the spiritual heart of the Champa Kingdom. Now, overgrown with jungle and still cloaked in mystery, it radiates a rare, untouched majesty.

After two days of riverside serenity, guests board The Vietage by Anantara, a 12-seat luxury carriage that winds through Central Vietnam’s emerald rice paddies and mist-covered hills. The six-hour journey is more than a transfer—it’s an unfolding narrative of regional flavours and heritage. The new onboard menu, launched in June, is a culinary map of the region: Cham Islands Seafood Salad and Quy Nhon Sundried Beef offer bright, textured beginnings, while mains like Braised Wagyu Cheek and Hoi An Chicken Rice pay homage to the land. Every bite is backed by thoughtful sourcing—Dalat strawberries, La Folliet Vietnamese coffee, and teas by Epicurean Sao. Framed by floor-to-ceiling windows, the countryside itself becomes part of the menu.

On arrival in Quy Nhon, guests settle into a private villa at Anantara Quy Nhon Villas, nestled between jungle-tipped hills and one of Vietnam’s most pristine stretches of coastline. From here, the next chapter of the Champa story unfolds with a guided excursion to the Banh It Towers, a lesser-known but no less majestic site. Here, amid rolling countryside, the remaining towers rise like sentinels—reminders of a time when Champa ruled the seas and mountain passes of Southeast Asia. The day ends with a panoramic picnic and the option to explore Viet Vo Dao, a regional martial art that reflects the grace and discipline of the culture it emerged from.

Throughout the experience, Anantara blends scholarly depth with sensory pleasure. Guests receive a 30-minute foot treatment at Anantara Hoi An’s spa, daily breakfast, and 20% savings on dining and wellness at both properties. But beyond these indulgences, the true luxury lies in the access—to time, space, and story. The itinerary doesn’t rush; it allows ancient stones and modern comforts to exist side by side.

With rates starting from USD 2,850 for two people, the Heritage of Champa Kingdom package is as much a passage through memory as it is a retreat. It’s ideal for the culturally curious, the historically inclined, or those simply seeking to anchor their travels in deeper resonance.

In a region where the past often feels folded into the landscape, Anantara draws back the veil with grace and clarity—revealing Champa not as a relic, but as a living influence that continues to shape the soul of Central Vietnam.
