A limited edition masterpiece inspired by Chinese zodiac traditions, blending exquisite artistry with technical excellence

A Tribute to the Year of the Wooden Snake

Arnold & Son, synonymous with horological artistry and innovation, commemorates the Year of the Wooden Snake in 2025 with an extraordinary creation: the Perpetual Moon 41.5 “Year of the Snake.” This red gold timepiece embodies the attributes associated with the Chinese zodiac—perspicacity, intelligence, and prudence—through a seamless integration of artistic finesse and technical prowess. Limited to just eight pieces, this collection is destined to captivate connoisseurs of fine watchmaking and cultural significance.

Symbolism in Design

Marking the beginning of the Wooden Snake year on January 29, 2025, the Perpetual Moon 41.5 celebrates transformation, energy, and introspection. Its dial, a canvas of unparalleled craftsmanship, features a hand-engraved 18-carat rose gold snake entwined around a ginkgo biloba branch—a tree revered for its timeless resilience and symbolism of peace. Set against a shimmering blue aventurine glass base, the snake appears lifelike, with its intricate scales, forked tongue, and broad head.

Further elevating its design, the dial showcases a luminous mother-of-pearl moon, surrounded by the constellations of Ursa Major and Cassiopeia. These celestial elements, hand-painted with Super-LumiNova, underscore the historical significance of stars in navigation and their role in the Chinese zodiac calendar.

Technical Brilliance

At the heart of this masterpiece lies the manually wound A&S1512 calibre, a testament to Arnold & Son’s commitment to precision. This movement’s moon phase complication achieves remarkable accuracy, requiring a single adjustment every 122 years. Boasting dual barrels and a 90-hour power reserve, the calibre operates at a frequency of 3 Hz (21,600 vph), ensuring reliable performance. The movement’s aesthetic finishes, including rhodium-plated circular graining and radiating Côtes de Genève stripes, reflect the brand’s dedication to excellence.

The 41.5 mm case, crafted from 18-carat red gold, is both elegant and robust, with a domed sapphire crystal and anti-reflective coating on both sides. The case back features a secondary moon phase display, enhancing the practicality and allure of the timepiece. Water-resistant to 30 meters, the watch is paired with an ink-blue alligator leather strap lined in red, secured by an 18-carat red gold prong buckle.

A Legacy of Innovation

Arnold & Son’s rich heritage as a pioneer of marine chronometers shines through in the Perpetual Moon 41.5. The inclusion of star constellations and the Pole Star pays homage to the brand’s historical connection to celestial navigation, bridging the gap between artistry and function.

Exclusivity and Value

With only eight pieces available, the Perpetual Moon 41.5 Red Gold “Year of the Snake” is a rare opportunity to own a piece of horological and cultural artistry. Priced at CHF 57,200 (subject to change), this timepiece is a testament to Arnold & Son’s enduring dedication to merging tradition with innovation.
