The collaboration between Ulysse Nardin and Gumball 3000 enters its third consecutive year with the launch of the Freak X Gumball 3000 Edition 2. Designed as a high-performance expression of the revolutionary Freak collection, this limited-edition luxury watch captures the shared DNA of innovation, individuality, and technical boldness. Engineered for collectors who value mechanical disruption, it blends avant-garde horology with rally-driven energy. The result is a statement timepiece rooted in movement, freedom, and cutting-edge craftsmanship.

Gumball 3000, founded by Maximillion Cooper, has evolved into a global automotive lifestyle phenomenon that transcends speed. The 3,000-mile rally represents culture in motion—uniting entrepreneurs, athletes, creatives, and visionaries through an immersive festival of cars and music. For 2026, the rally charts a route from Miami to Mexico City, reinforcing its identity as a platform for boundary-pushing experiences. This culture of forward momentum directly informs the design ethos of the Freak X Gumball 3000 Edition 2.

Originally launched in 2001, the Freak disrupted modern watchmaking by eliminating traditional hands, dial, and crown, allowing the movement itself to indicate time. It introduced silicon technology to horology and reshaped high-performance mechanical engineering. Over the decades, the collection has secured its position as one of the most influential innovations in 21st-century Swiss watchmaking. The Freak X refines this radical architecture into a more wearable and contemporary configuration.

The Freak X Gumball 3000 Edition 2 expresses this legacy through a striking black and orange aesthetic inspired by the rally’s visual codes. Its rotating hour disc in Carbonium®, crafted from aerospace-grade carbon fibre infused with vivid orange epoxy resin, creates a three-dimensional Damascus-like texture. Each disc is unique, reinforcing exclusivity and craftsmanship. The material innovation reflects Ulysse Nardin’s expertise in advanced composites and high-performance design.

Powering the timepiece is the UN-230 Manufacture calibre, an automatic movement integrating a flying carrousel rotating on its own axis. Silicon components, including the escapement wheel, anchor, and oversized balance wheel, ensure precision, resistance to magnetism, and technical reliability. With 206 components operating at 3 Hz, the movement delivers a dynamic architectural display that replaces traditional hands with kinetic engineering. This mechanical architecture reinforces the Freak’s identity as a modern “superwatch.”

The black DLC titanium case strengthens the watch’s athletic character, offering durability while maintaining a streamlined profile. Orange Super-LumiNova® accents highlight the minute wheel and indexes, enhancing legibility and visual contrast. An openworked black rubber strap with orange inserts completes the performance-focused aesthetic. Limited to 150 pieces, this edition underscores exclusivity within contemporary luxury sports watches.

Celebrating 180 years of challenging convention, Ulysse Nardin continues to redefine high horology through material research and mechanical innovation. From marine chronometers trusted by navies to pioneering silicon technology, the Maison has consistently reshaped industry standards. The Freak X Gumball 3000 Edition 2 stands as a continuation of this disruptive spirit—where rally culture meets radical watchmaking, and precision engineering becomes a visual expression of movement.
