De Bethune, the renowned Swiss watchmaker, is unveiling an extraordinary timepiece for the Mavericks of Time exhibition, curated by Ahmed Sediqqi & Sons, at Dubai’s Museum of the Future. The DW5 Al-Amal, a unique creation, represents a time capsule of love and hope, offering a glimpse into the brand’s visionary approach to watchmaking.

A Message of Love and Hope

Designed to commemorate the Mavericks of Time exhibition, the DW5 Al-Amal is a one-of-a-kind timepiece that embodies the universal message of love. Inspired by the illuminated Arabic calligraphy adorning the Museum of the Future’s exterior, the watch features six distinct Arabic calligraphies for the word “Love.” From friendship to faith, each engraving signifies different forms of love, celebrating the powerful and transcendent nature of this emotion.

A Timeless Creation

The DW5, which debuted in 2022, has been chosen for this project due to its futuristic design and innovative structure. Its aerodynamic case, crafted from mirror-polished titanium, houses the exclusive Calibre DB2144V2 movement. This technical marvel is compact yet versatile, offering an aesthetic and functional platform for the DW5’s unique features, including a spherical moon-phase indication and a jumping hour display.

Denis Flageollet, De Bethune’s master watchmaker and founder, notes, “The Dream Watch collection is one of De Bethune’s mainstays, designed to push the technical and aesthetic boundaries of the wristwatch. As a concept watch, the DW5 allows me to go beyond simple watchmaking. Like a sculpture, the experimental work carried out on titanium is part of an artistic approach inspired by philosophical and personal reflections.”

Innovation Meets Craftsmanship

The DW5 Al-Amal represents the pinnacle of De Bethune’s watchmaking philosophy. Featuring groundbreaking innovations like a spherical moon-phase indicator accurate to one lunar day every 1,112 years and a titanium balance wheel with white gold inserts, this watch blends precision with aesthetic beauty. Additionally, the unique structure of the case and dial, enhanced with original techniques like the flamed-blue steel and blued titanium, elevates this timepiece into a wearable work of art.

Technical Specifications:

  • Movement: Caliber DB2144V2, hand-wound, 5-day power reserve, 28,800 vph, triple shock-absorbing system, Moon-phase accuracy: 1 lunar day every 1,112 years
  • Display: Jumping hour, rotating minute disc, spherical moon-phase
  • Case: Material: Mirror-polished titanium, 58mm x 47mm, 16mm thick, Water resistance: 3 ATM, anti-reflective crystal
  • Strap: Alligator leather with titanium pin buckle

Unveiling the Future of Time

The DW5 Al-Amal will be on display at the Museum of the Future on November 9-10, 2024, where collectors and horology enthusiasts can appreciate this exceptional fusion of innovation, culture, and craftsmanship. The watch will serve as a symbol of the creative boldness and forward-thinking philosophy that has long been the hallmark of De Bethune.

For those seeking to experience this masterpiece, De Bethune’s timepiece is not just a functional watch—it’s a reminder of the power of love and hope, conveyed through the language of watchmaking and artistry.
