The MB&F SP One, once code-named “Three Circles,” marks a transformative new chapter for the maverick Swiss watchmaker. A study in equilibrium, the SP One introduces a poetic, gravity-defying horological display where three core components—the barrel, balance wheel, and time dial—float theatrically at the centre of a 38mm amphitheatre-like stage. Encased in a sculptural pebble-like form, the watch blends high-concept mechanical ingenuity with sensual minimalism, inaugurating a bold new “Special Projects” collection that hovers somewhere between MB&F’s flamboyant Horological Machines and its stately Legacy Machines.

Beneath the curved sapphire domes front and back, the movement reveals an illusion of levitation. The components are arranged with mathematical harmony, their symmetrical circumferences creating a visual ballet of floating architecture. Bridges are rendered nearly invisible, screws practically vanish, and all distractions are cleared to showcase the theatrical dance of the balance wheel, oscillating hypnotically at 2 o’clock. This sparse and sculptural construction doesn’t just look stunning—it makes the inner workings of a mechanical timepiece intuitively clear.

Conceived during the COVID pandemic when MB&F dipped into a “basket” of whimsical, long-dormant ideas, the SP One stands as a testament to creativity born of constraint. “We asked ourselves: what if we did what no one expected—a classical watch?” recalls MB&F founder Maximilian Büsser. The result is anything but conventional. A tilted dial, enabled by tricky but precise conical gearing, showcases MB&F’s signature love for three-dimensional engineering, while the perfectly balanced triad of components anchors the brand’s hallmark rebellion against the flat and ordinary.
But beyond the micro-engineering lies the tactile seduction of the case. The SP One’s pebble-shaped form evokes nature’s most soothing geometry—like a stone smoothed by water over time. Despite its ultra-thin profile, the watch feels three-dimensional and organic, with seamless sapphire and floating lugs that detach from the upper case, giving the impression that the whole timepiece is levitating. It’s a wearable sculpture that brings both visual drama and meditative calm to the wrist.

The MB&F SP One is not simply a departure from the brand’s usual theatrical boldness—it is a soft revolution. It strips away visual noise to reveal poetic precision, elegant restraint, and a sense of timeless rebellion. A classical MB&F that’s anything but classic, the SP One is a quiet masterpiece built for those who appreciate the art of defying expectations—beautifully and thoughtfully.
