New Depths of Design: IWC Unveils Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Sharks”

In a subtle tribute to the elegance and mystery of marine life, IWC Schaffhausen introduces the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Sharks,” a refined evolution in the diver’s watch collection, created in collaboration with acclaimed underwater photographer and filmmaker Michael Muller.

Encased in robust stainless steel, the 44mm timepiece blends technical capability with sculptural aesthetics. Its internal rotating bezel—part of IWC’s signature SafeDive system—allows for precise underwater timing, while the automatic movement ensures reliable performance with a 68-hour power reserve. The silver-plated dial, detailed with white luminescent markers and red accents on the chronograph hands, evokes a quiet strength reminiscent of the creature it honours.

The watch is limited to 500 pieces worldwide, but its appeal is not limited to collectors. A matte grey rubber strap complements the case’s brushed steel finish, offering durability and comfort whether on land or beneath the waves. The screw-in crown and water resistance to 30 bar underscore its utility, yet the design avoids ostentation. It’s a tool watch elevated by restraint.

What distinguishes this edition is not merely the mechanics but the story. Delivered in a bespoke presentation box, the watch is accompanied by a signed copy of Michael Muller’s limited-edition photography book Sharks—an arresting visual record produced in collaboration with TASCHEN. The book features Muller’s signature close-range, cage-free shark portraits captured with a custom-made 1,200-watt underwater strobe system.

The caseback is engraved with a depiction of a hammerhead shark, further anchoring the timepiece in its thematic narrative—one not of fear, but of fascination and respect for the world beneath the surface. Through this edition, IWC continues to support marine exploration and ocean conservation initiatives.

Measured, purposeful, and quietly distinctive, the Aquatimer Chronograph Edition “Sharks” is less about making a statement and more about standing for something. It’s a timepiece for those who value clarity of purpose, both in watchmaking and in the water.
