2020 marks 70 years since the introduction of Luminor, the tritium-based luminous substance which later came to identify one of the brand’s most emblematic model ranges. To commemorate the occasion, Panerai has unveiled six Luminor Marina models. It also debuts two new materials: Goldtech and Fibratech. Also, the brand has launched the Luminor Luna Rossa GMT to commemorate its partnership with Luna Rossa sailing team.
Luminor Marina – 44 MM
For the first time, Luminor goes beyond the confines of the dial to illuminate new components like the stitching on the strap, the crown, the crown protecting, bridge and its lever. What’s more, the fluorescence is from the advanced Super-LumiNovaTM X1, which provides a higher degree of luminosity. The case is DMLS titanium while the dial is blue with sunray finish. This model will be limited to 270 units, with each unit guaranteed for 70 years. Ref. PAM01117.
Luminor Marina Fibratech
The new Fibratech – made from unidirectional mineral fibres produced by the fusion of basalt rock – makes its debut with two new models. Ref. PAM01119 features green Super-LumiNova on the bezel, winding crown, crown-protecting Safety Lock, the stitching on the strap and the dial markings. It comes with a guarantee of 70 years. Ref. PAM01663 has a blue dial and strap with white Super-LumiNova (green luminescence) on the dial markers.
Luminor Marina Panerai Goldtech
Goldtech is a red-gold formula perfected by the Panerai Laboratorio di Idee. It is characterised by a high percentage of copper (24%) combined with platinum (0.4%). Both materials are key to achieving an intense, unique tone and an extreme degree of mechanical and oxidation resistance. The case of this Luminor Marina features this new gold, accentuated by alternating satin and glossy finishes. It is enhanced by the deep blue sandwich dial with satiné soleil decoration. This model is a permanent addition to the collection.
Luminor Marina Carbotech
The case is made from Carbotech, a carbon composite introduced into high-quality watchmaking by Panerai. It is a light material with high resistance to stress and corrosion. The new generation “X1” Super-LumiNova illuminates the dial markers, Safety Lock and its locking lever, flange, and the stitching of the strap. This model will be limited to 270 units, with each unit guaranteed for 70 years.
Luminor Marina DMLS
A model that combines high-tech features with a sportier profile by mixing DMLS titanium and Carbotech. The case is made of titanium with Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) technology – an innovative 3D printing process that can create a hollow cavity within. The bezel, crown and lever of the Safety Lock are in Carbotech. An unpolished anthracite dial with tone-on-tone SuperLumiNova indexes and numbers, enhances its monochrome visual identity.
Luminor Luna Rossa GMT
This model celebrates Team Luna Rossa’s participation in the 36th America’s Cup. It is constructed in titanium, a metal with hypoallergenic properties, extreme lightness and corrosion resistance. With the addition of special carbon-based DLC coating, the metal has an increased degree of wear resistance. The dial is covered in a thin layer of technical fabric from the sailing equipment of Luna Rossa. Its role as the official watch is announced with a personalised inscription on the dial and an intricate engraving on the case back.
