In a bold step for watchmaking innovation, Rolex introduces the first-ever ceramic dial in its history, unveiled on the latest Oyster Perpetual GMT-Master II crafted in 18 ct white gold. This pioneering use of Cerachrom not only reflects the brand’s mastery of high-technology ceramics but also reinforces its reputation as a trailblazer in horological design.

The deep green dial, made entirely of ceramic, harmonises seamlessly with the lower half of the two-tone green and black Cerachrom bezel insert. Together, they create a tonal symmetry that remains vivid and true under every lighting condition — a testament to Rolex’s unrivalled precision in material innovation.

As with all GMT-Master II models, the watch remains a trusted companion for global travellers, featuring a 24-hour graduated bidirectional rotatable bezel and a triangle-tipped hand that allows the simultaneous reading of multiple time zones. A nod to its aviation roots, the model preserves its identity as the quintessential “tool watch” for modern explorers.

At the heart of this release lies calibre 3285, Rolex’s state-of-the-art movement. With its patented Chronergy escapement, blue Parachrom hairspring, and Paraflex shock absorbers, the calibre guarantees both resilience and accuracy, while offering an impressive 70-hour power reserve. Its performance meets Rolex’s Superlative Chronometer certification, ensuring daily precision of ?2/+2 seconds — a standard far exceeding industry benchmarks.

The 40 mm Oyster case, hewn from a solid block of 18 ct white gold, continues Rolex’s legacy of robustness. Waterproof to 100 metres, it is equipped with a Triplock crown and scratch-resistant sapphire crystal, offering ultimate protection for the mechanism within. The Cyclops lens over the date aperture at 9 o’clock further enhances legibility.

Paired with the iconic Oyster bracelet, the watch balances strength with refinement. Patented ceramic inserts ensure long-lasting flexibility, while the Oysterlock clasp prevents accidental opening. For everyday ease, the Easylink extension allows wearers to adjust the bracelet length by 5 mm — a small but meaningful detail that reflects Rolex’s user-centred philosophy.

Design flourishes extend beyond technical achievement. The white gold hour markers and hands are filled with Chromalight, Rolex’s signature luminescent material, emitting a long-lasting blue glow for clarity in the darkest conditions. The juxtaposition of materials — precious metal, ceramic, and luminescence — elevates the model from functional to undeniably iconic.

While technical mastery defines the GMT-Master II, its spirit remains tied to travel. Originally developed in collaboration with pioneering airlines, the GMT-Master has evolved into an emblem of exploration, bridging continents and cultures with precision and elegance. This latest edition, with its ceramic dial innovation, carries forward that legacy while setting a new benchmark in contemporary watch design.
