Panerai’s new Platinumtech Luminor Marina (PAM01116), is constructed in a new platinum alloy developed exclusively by the watchmaker. Unveiled as part of Luminor’s 70th-anniversary celebration, the watch comes with an incredible 70 years guarantee. During which time, the brand will provide customers with services to keep the watch in a perfect functioning state free of charge. The watch, a limited edition of 70 pieces, is available exclusively at Panerai boutiques globally.
Platinumtech is an alloy developed at Panerai Laboratorio di Idee. It is harder than conventional platinum with enhanced physical properties. While it offers greater durability, it is considerably more difficult to work with and to polish. The watchmaker, therefore, had to develop a highly specialized manual polishing process for the 44mm case. In addition to the case, polished Platinumtech is used in the bezel, while the metal is given a brushed finished on the trademarked Safety Lock crown protection device, lever and crown.
The dial, with a sandwich structure, is in Olive green with satiné soleil decoration. It has the brand’s signature Arabic numerals and indexes in beige Super-LumiNova with green luminescence. It has a seconds subdial at 9 o’clock, and a date window at 3 o’clock.
Inside, the self-winding Caliber P.9010 features a rapid adjustment system that can move the hour hand forward or backwards in increments of one hour, independent of the minute hand. Designed and developed entirely by the Panerai Manufacture in Neuchâtel, it has a three-day power reserve and beats at 28,800 vibrations per hour. The 6mm thick calibre packs 200 components, including a Glucydur balance wheel, Incabloc shockproof device and two barrels.
Water-resistant to 5 bar, or around 50 meters, the Platinumtech Luminor has a twelve-sided screwed caseback in brushed Platinumtech. It features a sapphire crystal porthole, along with the “70 Years Warranty” logo applied by a metallization process.
The watch comes with an alligator leather strap in dark brown with ecru stitching and a brushed Platinumtech trapezoidal pin buckle. A second strap, chosen according to the customer’s request at the time of purchase is also included, along with a screwdriver for changing and removing the Platinumtech trapezoidal buckle. The watch, strap and accessories are presented in a black lacquered wooden box with the luminescent Luminor Marina logo on the lid.
The Platinumtech Luminor Marina is a limited edition available exclusively through the brand’s boutiques.
