Gulf 12 Hours champion Joe Osborne recently took the all-new McLaren Artura Spider for a high-speed lap around the iconic Yas Marina Circuit, showcasing the latest evolution in hybrid supercar performance from McLaren.

Unmatched Hybrid Performance with Open-Air Thrill

The McLaren Artura Spider, equipped with McLaren’s groundbreaking V6 hybrid technology, delivers a blend of blistering speed and an electrifying open-top driving experience. Known for his dominance on endurance tracks, Joe Osborne explored the supercar’s latest updates for the MY25 model year, which left him thoroughly impressed.

“The Artura Spider’s V6 hybrid powertrain is extraordinary, with major upgrades to power and performance immediately apparent when unleashed on the circuit. The fusion of its twin-turbo V6 and E-Motor delivers instant torque, breathtaking acceleration, and a soundtrack that elevates the entire experience. It’s Formula 1™-inspired performance tailored for the road,” Osborne commented.

Engineering Excellence Inspired by Formula 1™

At the core of the Artura Spider is McLaren’s 3.0-litre twin-turbo V6 engine paired with a high-performance E-Motor, delivering a combined output of 700PS and 720Nm of torque. Notable upgrades include:

  • +20PS power boost versus previous model years
  • Enhanced performance from 4,000rpm to 8,500rpm, creating a thrilling crescendo of power
  • Acceleration: 0-100km/h in 3.0 seconds
  • Extended 33km EV range for urban versatility

The revised valved exhaust system, complete with a tuned resonator and upward conical tailpipes, amplifies the visceral engine soundtrack, delivering an experience akin to McLaren’s Formula 1™ DNA.

Precision, Agility, and Lightweight Innovation

Built on the McLaren Carbon Fibre Lightweight Architecture (MCLA), the Artura Spider achieves an exceptional power-to-weight ratio of 480PS per tonne, ensuring unmatched agility and speed. Key highlights include:

  • Proactive Damping Control suspension system for responsive handling
  • Enhanced braking cooling ducts for superior stopping power
  • Retractable hardtop roof that opens or closes in just 11 seconds, even at speeds of up to 50km/h

Whether in EV mode or delivering full-throttle acceleration, the Artura Spider adapts seamlessly to driver inputs, offering a unique dual driving experience.

Joe Osborne’s Verdict: An Epic Supercar for Road and Track

“The Artura Spider adds a dynamic dimension to McLaren’s hybrid innovation. The V6 engine sounds alive, the open-air driving elevates the thrill, and the engineering precision is truly unrivalled. It’s a car that’s as at home carving corners on the Yas Marina Circuit as it is cruising through city streets,” Osborne concluded.

The Future of Electrified Supercars

The McLaren Artura Spider represents the pinnacle of electrified performance engineering, reflecting McLaren’s relentless pursuit of innovation and sustainability. From its Formula 1™ heritage to cutting-edge hybrid advancements, the Artura Spider sets a new benchmark for modern supercars.
