Girard-Perregaux Reimagines the Deep Diver for a New Era of Haute Horlogerie

In a year that continues to celebrate icons of the past, Girard-Perregaux revisits one of its most bold and technically advanced watches: the Deep Diver. Originally released in 1969 at the height of a decade defined by the Space Race, Concorde’s test flights, and Verner Panton’s revolutionary chair, the Deep Diver emerged as a statement piece that reflected the design optimism and mechanical innovation of the time. With its cushion-shaped case and the inclusion of the brand’s Gyromatic system, it was a feat of Swiss engineering that captivated a new generation of divers and design aficionados alike.

The newly reborn Deep Diver bridges the legacy of its 1969 debut with contemporary watchmaking mastery. Its design draws directly from its roots: the cushion-shaped Grade 5 titanium case remains a defining silhouette, while its dial pays homage to the vibrant red version from 1971. The bold geometry continues with a 14-facet bezel, a pioneering design that foreshadowed the Laureato’s own signature aesthetic just a few years later. The new model adds a modern edge with a fresh palette of blue, orange, and white, and features like an internal rotating bezel and a date window, all brought to life under luminous markers and hands that glow electric blue in low light.

Crafted for comfort and versatility, the 40.30 mm x 38.00 mm case balances elegance with functionality. At 2 and 4 o’clock, dual crowns recall the original model while enhancing symmetry. The quick-release strap system offers effortless transitions between the included blue and orange rubber straps. At its heart lies the in-house GP03300 calibre, visible through a blue metallised sapphire case back, finely finished with Geneva stripes, mirror-polished screws, and a trident emblem—a subtle tribute to Neptune, god of the sea, and a nod to the watch’s aquatic spirit.

True to Girard-Perregaux’s legacy of in-house innovation, the GP03300 calibre is a self-winding movement only 3.36 mm thick, offering a power reserve of 46 hours. Its craftsmanship reflects the same dedication to technical and aesthetic precision that has driven the brand for over 230 years. This calibre, like the watch it powers, is a quiet celebration of mastery, where every bevel, polish, and engraving speaks of intention and legacy.

Produced in collaboration with the Bamford Watch Department, the 2025 Deep Diver is limited to just 350 pieces worldwide. This exclusive release joins Girard-Perregaux’s ‘Legacy Editions’ collection, following in the footsteps of the acclaimed Casquette revival. But these aren’t simple reissues; each model reinterprets history through the lens of modern design and material innovation. The new Deep Diver is more than a collector’s item—it is a modern relic, redefined for a new era, yet grounded in the story of Swiss horology.

The return of the Deep Diver also speaks to a broader movement within the world of fine watchmaking—one where nostalgia is carefully balanced with forward-thinking design. Girard-Perregaux doesn’t merely replicate the past; it reshapes it, capturing the emotional essence of its historic icons while infusing them with the materials, mechanics, and finishing demanded by today’s most discerning collectors. This approach is visible in every detail of the Deep Diver, from the retro-futuristic typography to the refined broadsword hands, creating a seamless interplay between memory and modernity.

As the Deep Diver enters the world once more, it does so not simply as a vintage revival but as a contemporary timepiece with soul, purpose, and poise. It appeals to collectors who appreciate authenticity, innovation, and rarity in equal measure. With only 350 units available globally, this is not just a watch—it’s a tangible piece of the Girard-Perregaux story, meticulously crafted for those who understand that true heritage is not frozen in time, but constantly evolving.
