A Symphony of Speed and Legacy: Ferrari Icons Headline RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2025 Auction

In the rarefied world of collector automobiles, few marques evoke as much passion, precision, and provenance as Ferrari. At RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2025 auction, a curated selection of Maranello’s most celebrated creations—past and present—takes centre stage in a masterfully assembled lineup that bridges the golden age of grand touring with the modern pinnacle of hypercar innovation.

Leading the charge is the ultra-rare 1993 Ferrari F40 LM, a raw, race-bred evolution of the iconic F40. Built by Michelotto to GTC specifications, this particular example, chassis 95448, delivers an extraordinary 760 horsepower—nearly 300 more than the standard model—and includes aerodynamic and mechanical upgrades tailored for track dominance. With just 19 examples ever built, this F40 LM stands out for its impeccable provenance, Ferrari Classiche certification, and a recent $67,000 service. Displayed to acclaim at ModaMiami, it remains one of the most visceral and collectible Ferraris ever offered at auction, estimated between $8.5 to $9.5 million.

From the raw power of analog racing to the refined force of hybrid hypercars, the 2017 Ferrari LaFerrari Apertapresents a stark but no less compelling contrast. Finished in the rarely-seen Nero Daytona with Rosso racing stripes, this Aperta (chassis 232856) is a late-production example dripping with over $113,000 in factory options, including carbon fibre everything and the elusive FXX-K wheels. With under 2,300 miles, it is as fresh as it is ferocious—an open-top tribute to Ferrari’s 70th anniversary, expected to fetch between $6 and $7 million.

Rarity takes on an even more extreme form with a 2015 LaFerrari from The Ming Collection—a singular example showing just 54 miles from new. Preserved in museum-like conditions since delivery and never having left its climate-controlled home, this one-owner hypercar is among the lowest-mileage LaFerraris in existence. Serviced exclusively by Ferrari-certified technicians and still under factory warranty, this unicorn of the modern era carries an estimate of $4.3 to $4.8 million.

Anchoring the lineup with old-world charm and enduring elegance is a 1967 Ferrari 275 GTB/4 by Scaglietti, chassis 09931. In Rosso Rubino over Beige with rare cord inserts, this four-cam V12 masterpiece remains one of the most original surviving examples, having travelled just 13,000 miles. Its matching-numbers engine, gearbox, and body—confirmed by Ferrari Classiche—combined with Best in Show pedigree and decades of preservation, make it a peerless example of Ferrari’s front-engine legacy, estimated between $3.5 to $4 million.

“This year’s Monterey auction represents a rare convergence of Ferrari’s most storied road and racing machines,” says Gord Duff, President of RM Sotheby’s. “From the analog purity of the F40 LM to the technical prowess of the LaFerrari Aperta and the museum-calibre originality of the 275 GTB/4, each car tells a different chapter of the Ferrari story.”

Together, these offerings transcend mechanical excellence—they are rolling artefacts of performance, artistry, and historical significance. Whether carved through time by racetrack victories or preserved under glass like rare jewels, this quartet of Ferraris offers collectors a chance to own not just a car, but a legacy.
