Chronofixe Cofrefor and Seconde/Seconde/ Reimagine Astérix with a Swiss Vault-Inspired Watch

In a playful yet refined tribute to one of France’s most beloved comic heroes, Chronofixe Cofrefor and Seconde/Seconde/ unveil their latest collaborative creation: the Astérix “Swiss Vaults” Edition. Released to mark the 55th anniversary of Astérix in Switzerland, the sixteenth album in the iconic series first published in 1970, this special edition celebrates both the enduring humour of the Gaulish warrior and the precision of Swiss watchmaking.

Founded in 1857, Chronofixe Cofrefor has long embodied the elegance of French horology, but with this edition, the maison leans into whimsy and storytelling. Conceived by Romaric André, the creative mind behind Seconde/Seconde/, the timepiece draws inspiration from the legendary Swiss safes that featured in Astérix in Switzerland. The bezel is designed to evoke a safe’s combination wheel, while the dial features Astérix in an unexpected vignette: his right ear pressed to the case, left hand turning the bezel, as though attempting to crack its secret code.

Further details enrich the narrative. The crown, sculpted in the style of a vault’s handle, amplifies the watch’s playful character, while the caseback engraving — “As airtight as a Swiss vault” — winks at both Swiss banking secrecy and the technical assurance of water resistance. True to Chronofixe’s standards, the watch houses a reliable Swiss movement, grounding the design’s humour in precision craftsmanship.

As with all Chronofixe limited editions, this Astérix timepiece is designed not only as a collector’s item but as a cultural artefact — a conversation between horology, literature, and pop culture. It represents a growing movement in watchmaking that embraces lightness, irony, and storytelling, all without compromising mechanical excellence.

Beyond its whimsical design, the Astérix “Swiss Vaults” Edition reflects a deeper synergy between comic artistry and horological heritage. Just as Goscinny and Uderzo infused Astérix in Switzerland with satire and cultural observation, Chronofixe and Seconde/Seconde/ reinterpret these themes through the lens of design and mechanics. The result is a watch that speaks not only to collectors of fine timepieces but also to enthusiasts of pop culture, nostalgia, and playful storytelling.

This edition also underscores Chronofixe’s commitment to limited-edition artistry. By partnering with Seconde/Seconde/, a label renowned for disrupting traditional watch aesthetics with tongue-in-cheek reinterpretations, the maison demonstrates how classic craftsmanship can evolve without losing authenticity. The piece stands as a reminder that luxury does not always have to be solemn — it can be witty, charming, and delightfully subversive.

For collectors, the watch represents an opportunity to own a slice of cultural history wrapped in Swiss precision. Limited in availability and designed with meticulous detail, it is destined to appeal to both seasoned watch aficionados and a new generation of buyers who value narrative as much as mechanics. In celebrating a comic hero through the art of fine watchmaking, Chronofixe and Seconde/Seconde/ once again prove that time, like humour, is universal.
