Vacheron Constantin Unveils Métiers d’Art Tribute to the Quest of Time

In a year that marks 270 years of uninterrupted horological excellence, Vacheron Constantin has unveiled one of its most extraordinary creations yet: the Métiers d’Art Tribute to the Quest of Time. Limited to just 20 pieces, this double-sided masterpiece is more than a watch—it is a celebration of the Maison’s devotion to artistry, astronomy, and the relentless pursuit of technical innovation.

At its heart lies the new Calibre 3670, a manually wound manufacture movement comprising 512 components, four patent applications, and a high frequency of 5 Hertz. This calibre represents a feat of miniaturisation and mechanical ingenuity, with its dual-mode retrograde display allowing time to be revealed either continuously or on demand. The very arms of a golden figure replace traditional hands, lifting this piece into the realm of kinetic art.

The dial, inspired by the La Quête du Temps astronomical clock, is both poetic and precise. The celestial vault reproduces the Geneva night sky as it appeared on 17 September 1755, the date of Vacheron Constantin’s founding. Each star has been carefully positioned with the assistance of the Geneva Observatory, ensuring a work of horological astronomy that is as accurate as it is evocative. The result is a tableau of time that places the wearer at the centre of the cosmos.

Every detail of the piece is conceived as an encounter between art and science. The titanium figure is finished with a golden PVD treatment and hand-applied patina, while the three-dimensional moon phase, meticulously engraved and finished in bi-coloured PVD, orbits with breathtaking fidelity. On the reverse, a sapphire sky chart tracks sidereal time with such precision that it will remain accurate for more than nine millennia.

As with all Métiers d’Art creations, traditional craftsmanship meets contemporary innovation. The bridges of the Calibre 3670 are finished with subtle circular satin brushing to enhance legibility, a refinement that underscores the Maison’s philosophy that true beauty lies not only in what is seen but also in what is hidden. This dedication to perfection has earned the timepiece the coveted Poinçon de Genève certification, a seal of both artistry and technical mastery.

The Tribute to the Quest of Time also honours Vacheron Constantin’s history of signature complications. From its 1930 “Bras en l’Air” pocket watch to the revolutionary Twin Beat Perpetual Calendar of 2019, the Maison has consistently redefined the retrograde display. In this latest creation, these legacies converge, blending cultural fascination with the cosmos and a relentless pursuit of mechanical originality.

Encapsulating François Constantin’s timeless motto—“Do better if possible, and that is always possible”—this Métiers d’Art timepiece is not merely a commemoration of the past but a bold step into the future of watchmaking. Each of the 20 numbered pieces, available exclusively through Vacheron Constantin boutiques, represents a rare opportunity to wear a fragment of horological history reimagined for the modern age.
