Unveiled exclusively at Dubai Watch Week, the Hommage “Sukoon Al-Layl” marks the final chapter of Roger Dubuis’ La Placide series, closing the year with a creation defined by restraint, emotion, and quiet power. Conceived as an intimate homage to the Maison’s founder, the timepiece reflects a softer expression of Roger Dubuis’ philosophy—one where serenity becomes as meaningful as technical virtuosity.

Created as a one-of-a-kind piece, “Sukoon Al-Layl” is entirely crafted in platinum, from the case and bezel to the crown, case back, and buckle. The material’s natural weight and muted brilliance lend the watch a sense of gravitas, reinforcing its contemplative character. Rather than seeking overt spectacle, the design invites closeness, rewarding those who take the time to observe its subtle details.

The layered dial introduces depth and visual calm, echoing the stillness of a desert landscape after nightfall. Its composition balances structure and softness, creating a sense of harmony that mirrors the emotional intention behind the piece. This measured approach to design reflects the Maison’s ability to express strength through simplicity, allowing tranquillity to take centre stage.

The name itself carries meaning. “Sukoon” translates to serenity, while “Al-Layl” means night—together evoking the peaceful silence that descends after dusk. This poetic reference aligns with the watch’s inspiration, capturing both the calm temperament of Mr. Roger Dubuis and his appreciation for moments of reflection away from excess and noise.

At the heart of the timepiece lies the RD1472 calibre, equipped with a Perpetual Calendar displayed through a Biretrograde system. This complication held a special place in Mr. Dubuis’ heart, and here it is presented not as a technical statement, but as a refined expression of time’s continuity. The movement bridges tradition and innovation, delivering mechanical complexity with measured elegance.

The watch also carries a deeper cultural dialogue. By referencing Arabic astronomy, the Hommage “Sukoon Al-Layl” subtly acknowledges centuries of celestial observation that shaped humanity’s understanding of time and the cosmos. This connection forms a bridge between Middle Eastern astronomical heritage and Geneva haute horlogerie, united through shared reverence for the night sky.

With this final creation, Roger Dubuis completes the La Placide series not with bold provocation, but with stillness. “Sukoon Al-Layl” stands as a meditation on legacy, night, and inner balance—where modern watchmaking pauses to honour its origins, and where serenity becomes the most enduring expression of luxury.
