Gerald Charles Unveils the Maestro 2.0 Meteorite: Cosmic Matter Reimagined in Contemporary Watchmaking

Gerald Charles opens a striking new chapter in its design narrative with the introduction of the Maestro 2.0 Meteorite, a timepiece that transforms extraterrestrial material into a deeply expressive object of haute horlogerie. For the first time in the Maison’s history, meteorite takes centre stage within the iconic Maestro case, paired with a small-seconds display that adds both technical refinement and visual dynamism.

More than a material choice, meteorite becomes a storytelling medium. The dial captures the precise moment of impact, translating cosmic force into form, texture, and movement. This conceptual approach echoes the creative philosophy of Gérald Charles Genta, who viewed the dial as a canvas for artistic expression rather than mere decoration. In the Maestro 2.0 Meteorite, that philosophy is reinterpreted through a contemporary lens.

The collection is expressed in two distinct interpretations. One embodies the intensity of collision, with a dark meteorite surface revealing flashes of colour beneath and a small-seconds display animated by a fiery gradient. The other reflects calm after impact, where matter cools and crystallises, offering a lighter, more serene expression accented by refined metallic tones. Together, they form a visual dialogue between chaos and stillness.

At the heart of the design lies an exceptionally rare material sourced from the Muonionalusta meteorite, estimated to be over 4.5 billion years old. Shaping this ancient material presents extraordinary challenges, requiring electro-erosion techniques and constant protection against oxidation. The result is a dial that preserves the meteorite’s natural structure while aligning perfectly with the Maestro’s complex geometry.

The dial construction itself is layered and sculptural, combining meteorite with an anodised or opaline baseplate beneath. Carefully placed apertures allow light and colour to emerge from below, creating the impression of shockwaves radiating outward. Roman numerals and indexes appear subtly displaced, as though pushed aside by the force of impact, while the small-seconds indicator at six o’clock brings a sense of perpetual motion.

This ambitious project was driven by a desire to go beyond aesthetics and express a moment frozen in time. Under the leadership of Federico Ziviani, the creative team challenged conventional expectations of meteorite dials, focusing instead on emotion, narrative, and tension. The result is a watch that feels both technically precise and artistically alive.

With the Maestro 2.0 Meteorite, Gerald Charles reinforces its identity as a house that reshapes history through design. By sculpting a fragment of the universe into a contemporary timepiece, the Maison bridges cosmic heritage and modern craftsmanship, offering collectors a wearable expression of time, impact, and imagination.
