Roger Dubuis has released a special and limited-edition Excalibur 45 Skeleton Double Flying Tourbillon to commemorate boxer Saúl “Canelo” Álvarez’s victory in the September 15th prizefight against Gennady Golovki which made him the newly crowned middleweight world champion. The Álvarez Excalibur is limited to just eight pieces.
Roger Dubuis’ Excalibur Original collection is the perfect match between high watch-making technology and natural elegance. In this collection, movements are skeletal, giving them a sharp look, and the materials chosen are among the most luxurious and innovative. The Automatic RD01SQ series skeleton double flying tourbillon, with a 50 hours power reserve, is one of the highest complications in the world of Haute Horlogerie. Roger Dubuis was the first to release such a complication.
The Álvarez Excalibur is dressed in the colours of “El Canelo“: black and gold. The gold is represented by 18K pink gold on the 45mm case, crown, caseback and on the fluted 18K pink gold bezel with DLC coating on the top surface. Gold also features on the Anthracite skeleton dial and flange, the hour markers are gold plated with golden superluminova, and the hour and minute hands are 18K pink gold as well. The glass is sapphire crystal with anti-reflective treatment.
Each piece is engraved in the boxer’s native Spanish with the time and date of this landmark fight held at 6 o’clock on Quince de septiembre.
The Manufacture has applied its finest skills to transforming Canelo’s initials into the jumper spring, a key movement component thus exemplifying its mastery of both the technical and aesthetic aspects of its craft.
The black strap is made from the boxer’s gloves and bears an inlaid embossed inscription of his “No Boxing No Life” mantra. Moreover, since Roger Dubuis is all about experiences of a lifetime, each purchaser will receive a pair of gloves bearing the champion’s signature.
