Pal Zileri recently redesigned their flagship boutique in Via Manzoni, Milan; “to create an environment that felt like a colourful, contemporary and stylish home. An overlapping of history and modernity guided the choice of furniture, rugs and works of art to create a fusion of eras and styles that portray an appreciation of beauty,” read a statement by the brand.
The Milan boutique’s redesign is just the first step in a larger restyling project of Pal Zileri’s entire directly-operated retail chain. It stems from the vision of Pal Zileri’s creative director Rocco Iannone, to recreate the environment of a “contemporary and stylish home.”
The new interior is “metaphorically, a space that depicts a vision of style and masculinity…. the choice of colours, materials, and lightning describe the Pal Zileri ethos while defining its habitat. Kindness, precision, and multiplicity guide the project: a light touch, Italian taste in the choice of elements, eclecticism in the mix”
The project was designed and supervised by architect Dante O. Benini whose diverse portfolio includes entire urban neighbourhoods, corporate headquarters, industrial laboratories, commercial spaces, exclusive clubs, private houses, yachts and design pieces.
The Venice based Rubelli Group provided the luxurious fabrics and furniture for the redesign. Currently run by the fifth generation of the Rubelli family, the maison designs, produces and sells a wide range of premium fabrics and furnishing products. Most of its production is done in-house, at the Cucciago mill, where cutting-edge machinery work side-by-side with eighteenth-century handlooms. Rubelli is positioned at the high end of the market and is a key player in the international interior design scene. Rubelli’s fabrics decorate private homes, international hotels, world-renowned theatres, castles and museums.
At Pal Zileri’s Milanese boutique, clients are greeted by the lagoon green of the reception area, followed by the peacock blue of the casual lifestyle area, while wood and chalk-white colours highlight the tailoring and made-to-measure areas. A Jaipur pink staircase connects the three floors, taking clients on an eclectic journey through the naturally intertwining levels, which showcase the colours, materials and lighting chosen to reflect the Pal Zileri ethos.
Throughout the boutique, clients are treated to carefully conceived room-sets featuring exquisite Rubelli Casa furniture: the Palazzo sofa, the Squerarol bench, as well as the Piron, Canevetta, Clinton and Colombina chairs. Rubelli’s wallcovering from their signature Venezia collection decorate the walls and are complemented by lighting elements and oxidised copper fixtures to create a dialogue between the traditional and the modern.
