Chanel’s Boyfriend watch wins the fifth crown at GPHG

Chanel’s Boyfriend Skeleton watch won the “Ladies” category at the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG) awards ceremony held on November 9, 2018. This was Chanel’s 5th honour at the prestigious event.

The Boyfriend Skeleton watch was first created in 2015 and now houses a beautiful watchmaking skeleton movement, the Caliber 3 with manual winding.

The result of three years of development, this third in-house movement was designed to be beautiful at any angle. Floating in its octagonal 18K beige gold case, it features a series of interlinked, vertically aligned circles. The mirror-polished beige gold chamfering emphasizes the movement’s depth. The bridges are placed at the back, allowing the watch’s beating heart to be the star of the show.

The brass bridge and plates feature black ADLC (amorphous diamond-like carbon) edging while the beige gold border is attained through galvanic treatment. The manual-winding mechanical movement displays hours, minutes and seconds using 114 components and 21 rubies. It has a power reserve of 55 hours.

18K beige gold also features on the bezel along with 66 brilliant-cut diamonds, on the crown with onyx cabochon, and on the ardillon buckle set with 48 brilliant-cut diamonds at the end of a shiny black alligator strap. The total gold weight is approximately 37 grams, and the diamonds are about 1.20 ct.
