A Conquering Green: Czapek & Cie’s New “Crossroads” Chronograph

In the world of high-end horology, where tradition often dictates the pace, Czapek & Cie has carved out a space by moving at its own high frequency. Their latest release, the Faubourg de Cracovie “Crossroads” Victory Green, is a masterclass in “versatile sportiness,” designed to transition seamlessly from a morning marathon to an evening gala.

This limited edition—of which only 18 pieces exist—is a striking dialogue between the elegance of “English green” and the raw energy of modern motorsport.

The Geometry of Motion

The first thing that draws the eye is the “Victory Green” dial, a hue achieved through a sophisticated PVD treatment. But it’s the texture that holds the gaze. Czapek has reinterpreted its signature “Double Soleil” guilloché, deepening the engravings to evoke the rugged profile of a sports car tire. This isn’t just aesthetic; the deep pattern reduces reflections, ensuring the dial remains legible even in the sharpest light.

To balance this bold center, the chronograph’s architecture has been meticulously refined:

  • Tachymeter Scale: Moved to the very periphery of the dial to maximize the guilloché workspace.
  • Reworked Counters: The 30-minute and 12-hour sub-dials are recessed and center-finished with a discreet circular azurage.
  • Urban Case: The 41.5 mm surgical steel case features sandblasted recesses along the flanks and lugs, making the watch feel lighter and more agile on the wrist.

The High-Frequency Heart

Beneath the British racing green exterior beats the SXH3 caliber, an integrated high-frequency automatic chronograph movement. Developed in collaboration with Vaucher Manufacture Fleurier, this COSC-certified chronometer oscillates at 36,000 vibrations per hour (5Hz), allowing for precise 1/10th-of-a-second timekeeping.

For the true enthusiast, the mechanics are as beautiful as the dial. Visible through a transparent sapphire caseback, the movement reveals:

  • A 22-carat pink gold oscillating weight, widely skeletonized to show off the polished column wheel below.
  • Anthracite-treated bridges with hand-beveled finishes.
  • A vertical clutch that ensures the chronograph hand never “jumps” when activated.

Czapek & Cie remains a brand for those who “collect rare people”. While the Maison’s roots stretch back to François Czapek, the 19th-century watchmaker to Napoleon III, this new “Crossroads” model is firmly focused on the future. Priced at CHF 32,000, it represents a unique intersection where historic établissage craftsmanship meets a tireless drive for innovation.
