A mono-pusher chronograph with deep horological pedigree, vintage restraint, and a motorsport soul—limited to just 20 pieces worldwide.

Some partnerships feel inevitable the moment they appear. The collaboration between Angelus, the historic Swiss chronograph manufacture, and MONOCHROME, a publication dedicated to explaining the beauty of fine watchmaking, is built on shared priorities of classical chronograph architecture, hand-finished movements, and watches designed to endure—values that shape the Montre de Souscription 5 from the inside out.

A Collector’s Formula, Perfected

After the swift sell-out success of its earlier subscription editions, MONOCHROME introduces the Montre de Souscription 5 Angelus Chronographe Tachymètre, a hand-wound, mono-pusher chronograph that reflects everything the publication values in fine watchmaking: vintage inspiration, lasting proportions, restrained design, and a movement of unquestionable pedigree.

Produced in a strictly limited run of 20 individually numbered pieces, the Montre de Souscription 5 is offered exclusively through MONOCHROME’s signature subscription model—an approach that places collectors at the very beginning of the watch’s story.

Angelus Calibre A5000: A Movement with Pedigree

At the heart of the Montre de Souscription 5 beats the Angelus Calibre A5000, a movement whose lineage reads like a who’s who of modern independent watchmaking. Its origins trace back to Techniques Horlogères Appliquées (THA), the legendary movement design atelier founded in 1989 by François-Paul Journe, Denis Flageollet, and Vianney Halter.

Originally conceived as the calibre 045MC—famously used in the Cartier Tortue Monopoussoir CPCP—the movement later found new life under Angelus after La Joux-Perret acquired its rights. Updated to contemporary standards, the A5000 retains its classical architecture:

  • Hand-wound mono-pusher chronograph
  • 3Hz frequency
  • 23 jewels
  • 42-hour power reserve

Viewed through the sapphire caseback, the calibre offers an increasingly rare pleasure: a fully exposed mechanical landscape. Column wheel, levers, springs, and gears are all on display, finished with bevelled bridges, Geneva stripes, chamfered steel levers, circular-grained golden wheels, and polished screws. For this edition, MONOCHROME opted for a 3N gold-finished main plate and bridges, subtly contrasting with the steel chronograph components.

A Tachymeter Dial with Motorsport DNA

While the Montre de Souscription 5 shares its underlying architecture with the Angelus Chronographe Télémètre, MONOCHROME makes the watch unmistakably its own. In place of a telemeter, the dial features a tachymeter scale, aligning the watch with the team’s long-standing passion for cars and motorsport.

Executed as a rare snailed tachymeter scale, the graduated markings spiral elegantly from 500 to 30 units, forming a double coil around the periphery of the dial—a configuration seldom seen, particularly at the edge rather than the centre.

The dial itself is finished in a pale 2N gold tone, matte and lightly grained, inspired by vintage Angelus chronographs rather than the expected salmon hue. Black printed scales, polished applied hour markers, and luminous hands complete a composition that balances warmth, clarity, and period authenticity.

Compact Proportions, Timeless Elegance

Housed in a 37mm stainless steel case measuring just 9.25mm thick, the Montre de Souscription 5 is a study in elegant restraint. Designed as a nod to Angelus’ 1950s chronographs, the case features elongated lugs that lend the watch a slightly larger wrist presence while maintaining refined proportions.

Brushed surfaces are offset by polished bevels, while the mono-pusher—integrated seamlessly into the crown—controls start, stop, and reset functions, preserving visual balance. A box-shaped sapphire crystal protects the dial, reinforcing the watch’s vintage character, while the sapphire caseback is engraved with the model name and individual numbering.

The watch is paired with a grey nubuck leather strap, secured by a signed stainless steel pin buckle, and delivered in a presentation box accompanied by an additional leather travel pouch.
