Linde Werdelin proudly unveils the Oktopus NATO CPU, a bespoke timepiece exclusively designed for NATO’s Close Protection Unit (CPU). This elite security team is tasked with safeguarding NATO’s Secretary General from potential threats, and now, they carry a watch that matches their exceptional mission.
The Oktopus NATO CPU represents more than a watch; it is a statement of precision, strength, and purpose. As the first series of the third generation in the iconic Oktopus dive watch family, this model pays homage to its legacy while embracing cutting-edge advancements.
The Evolution of the Oktopus: From Dive Companion to Precision Masterpiece
Since its debut in 2009, the Oktopus collection has been a hallmark of durability and innovation. While the first generation featured a traditional turning bezel, the second iteration introduced an eight-screw fixed bezel and refined case design. The third generation, showcased by the Oktopus NATO CPU, builds on this legacy with architectural enhancements, striking aesthetics, and a focus on streamlined comfort.
Drawing inspiration from the protective shell of a submersible, the Oktopus case embodies resilience and functionality. Each angle and dimension of the third-generation case has been meticulously redesigned, offering a bold yet wearable design that reflects its heritage while forging into the future.
Key Features of the Oktopus NATO CPU
Case
Crafted with a five-part construction, the case is made from Grade 5 titanium, renowned for its strength, lightweight properties, and polishable finish. The watch is waterproof up to 300 meters and features a screw-down crown. The case back proudly displays the CPU’s emblem and NATO’s motto: “One for all and all for one.”
Movement
The timepiece is powered by a robust three-hand automatic movement with a 4 Hz frequency (28,800 bph), delivering precise timekeeping. With a 42-hour power reserve, the movement ensures reliability under the most demanding conditions.
Dial
The dial features a two-layer sandwich construction. The bottom layer is coated with Super-LumiNova for exceptional visibility, while the top layer displays cut-out numerals and indices in casted luminova. Finished in NATO’s signature blue, the dial includes the NATO logo centrally and the inscription “Close Protection Unit” between six and three o’clock. Diamond-cut hands coated in Super-LumiNova complete the design.
Honoring a Legacy of Purpose
The Oktopus NATO CPU follows in the footsteps of iconic timepieces such as the Oktopus Frogman (2014) and the 3 Timer Ukraine (2022). With its creation, Linde Werdelin reaffirms its commitment to being a champion of peace, democracy, and cooperation. As Jorn Werdelin explains:
“When asked to create this series, we immediately accepted, recognizing its importance as a symbol of being on the right side of history.”
