Masters of Motion: RM Sotheby’s London Auction Welcomes £19 Million in Rare Automotive Icons

This November, London will once again become the epicentre of automotive excellence as RM Sotheby’s unveils an extraordinary line-up of consignments worth an additional £19 million, headlined by some of the rarest and most coveted collector cars ever built. Taking place on 1 November at The Peninsula London, the auction promises to be a celebration of design, engineering, and the enduring art of motoring craftsmanship.

Leading this illustrious ensemble is a 2015 Ferrari LaFerrari FXX-K Evo, one of just 60 examples created as part of Ferrari’s legendary XX Programme. Finished in Bianco Italia with Rosso Fuoco and Argento accents, this machine represents the pinnacle of track-born innovation, further elevated by its rare Evo specification. With just over 5,700 kilometres covered and a meticulous overhaul at Maranello, the car stands ready for a triumphant return to the circuit — a living embodiment of Italian performance at its most visceral.

From Maranello to Gaydon, two landmark Aston Martins join the auction, each a masterpiece of its era. The 2024 Aston Martin Valkyrie Coupé, one of only 25 right-hand-drive examples, dazzles with a bespoke “Anemos” specification — an ethereal fusion of purple-tinted carbon fibre, 24-carat gold leaf accents, and Alcantara interiors, adding nearly half a million pounds to its original price. By contrast, the 1959 Aston Martin DB4 GT embodies vintage racing heritage, a lightweight grand tourer built for endurance and elegance alike, once owned by celebrated Aston Works driver Noël Cunningham-Reid.

Adding to the symphony of automotive artistry is a 1954 Maserati A6GCS, a race-proven champion of the Mille Miglia Storica, and a 1968 Lamborghini Miura P400 finished in its original Bleu Miura, a colour as captivating as the design itself. These cars represent the golden age of Italian engineering — when form and function merged seamlessly into sculpture.

Meanwhile, a 2023 Ferrari 812 Competizione A, the open-top evolution of Ferrari’s revered V12 series, takes pride of place as the first of its kind to be auctioned in the UK. With its Atelier finish in Grigio Competizione over Charcoal Alcantara, this rare model encapsulates the fusion of aesthetic restraint and raw performance. Completing the modern contingent is a 1996 Porsche 911 GT2, one of just 194 built, alongside a 2015 McLaren P1 GTR, a hybrid hypercar bred purely for the track.

For purists, two pre-war Bentleys — a 1929 Speed Six Weymann Saloon and a 1928 6½-Litre Tourer — evoke an era when driving was a matter of gentlemanly adventure. Both embody the timeless appeal of hand-built craftsmanship, carrying the legacy of British motoring into the modern day.

Beyond cars, RM Sotheby’s adds a touch of personality to the sale with cherished registration plates such as “WTF 1”, “GTR 1”, and “EB 1”, each a collectible in its own right.

Held on the eve of the London to Brighton Veteran Car Run, the RM Sotheby’s London Sale stands not only as an auction but as a gathering of passion — where mechanical beauty, historical significance, and human ingenuity converge. Each car tells a story of ambition and artistry, a reminder that great machines, like great art, are eternal.
