On the first day of Milan Men’s Fashion Week, Sandra Choi, Jimmy Choo’s creative director presented her 2018 men’s collection within the opulent ambience of Milan’s chic Mandarin Oriental hotel. Choi stated that her primary inspiration came from history, in particular, that of the extravagance of royalty, but tempered for the sensibilities of today.
The collection, therefore, has some extravagant examples of sneakers, lace-ups and even slippers featuring metal studs, laurel embroidery, and even pearl studs in white or black. However, it also had some examples espousing the less-is-more mantra where the studs were confined to the tassels or the piping.
One of the outstanding highlights of the show was the Baldwyn hiker-sneaker hybrid featuring lizard-print calf leather and tortoiseshell patent body supported by two-layer sole; the upper part being more conventional rubber mid-sole supported by a translucent rubber outsole.
