As the 2019 Dubai Watch Week is upon us, we talk about some of the highlights of its last edition two years ago.
Under the Patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa Bint Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice Chairman of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority; the Dubai Watch Week’s 3rd edition was held in 2017. Just like the earlier 2 editions, watch enthusiasts were able to attend a whole series of conferences, watch exhibitions, watchmaking workshops and much more.
The Dubai Watch Week 2017 celebrated all things watchmaking by bringing together some of the world’s most famous watch brands as well as some of the most influential personalities in the industry.
The event hosted around sixty brands under the theme of “Classic & Contemporary”. It included an entire program that aimed to explore the evolution of the watch industry by highlighting its past and its know-how, and also its ability to look to the future and incorporate the latest innovations available. In addition to workshops and conferences, visitors could have their watches appraised by a Christie’s specialist and learn how to bid; thanks to an auction room set up by the auctioneer.
Leading luxury watch brands such as A. Lange & Söhne, Audemars Piguet, Bulgari, Chopard, Dior, Hublot, Richard Mille, IWC, MB&F, Officine Panerai, Vacheron Constantin and Jaeger-LeCoultre showcased both new and iconic timepieces during the third edition of Dubai Watch Week 2017.
The DWW 2017 also saw exhibitions such as the Classic & Contemporary Exhibition where visitors discovered the evolution of the watch industry through the presentation of timepieces from heritage and new brands, the Telling Time Exhibition Curated by Fondation De La Haute Horlogerie (FHH) which represented the works and timepieces by contemporary artists and designers, the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève Exhibition at which visitors discovered the competition’s prize-winning models and explored and admired the year’s most exquisite watchmaking creations and The Mastery Of Time Virtual Experience that put visitors at the centre of watchmaking’s milestone inventions.
The talks at the event included Icons and Classics – The History, Innovation & Technology – Influencing Traditional Methodologies and Grand Complications- An All Boys Club?
Francois-Henry Bennahmias (CEO of Audemars Piguet), Francois-Paul Journe (Founder of F.P. Journe), Felix Baumgartner (Founder of Urwerk) and Fabrizio Buonamassa (Senior Director at Watches Design Center, Bvlgari) were some of the speakers at the event.
