2020 saw the establishment of the Academy of the Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Genève (GPHG). It is composed of several hundred members, all experienced and significant stakeholders in the key watchmaking-related sectors, divided into colleges and forming a vast network of ambassadors worldwide.
The newly founded GPHG Academy, in the last few weeks, has kicked off the 20th edition of the industry’s leading award show with several hundred pre-selected models for the competition. Swiss and international brands have been invited to enter the GPHG awards this year, via a new digital platform with the cut-off date for entries being July 31, 2020.
Members of the Academy have the fundamental mission of proposing the eligible watch models, in parallel with the traditional brand entries, and taking part in the various votes to determine the winners. The Academy’s proposals are currently being submitted to the watch brands concerned, which can decide whether or not to confirm the participation of the proposed watches and also enter other watches of their choice in the competition. In addition, all brands may choose to enter the competition spontaneously via the dedicated platform. The list of awards and categories, as well as the entry conditions and procedure, are laid out in detail in the 2020 edition Rules on the GPHG website.
The 2020 list of award-winners will be revealed on November 12th at the 20th GPHG award ceremony. A new category introduced this year will enable the Academy and the Jury to honour an award-worthy smartwatch.
With the creation of its new Academy, the GPHG is inaugurating a whole new selection, entry and voting process. Thereby, globally developing its mission on behalf of watchmaking, it is establishing itself, more than ever this year, as an essential instrument in promoting the sector’s latest models.
