Horology Forum 2020 To Be Presented Online

  • October 22, 2020
  • 2 minute read

Under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Latifa bint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Chairperson of Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), Dubai Watch Week announces the return of the Horology Forum – the 6th edition of the engaging, panel-led horological discussions – in a new format between October 24 and November 9.

Dubai Watch Week is a global platform dedicated to the preservation of watchmaking culture and heritage by creating one of the largest non-commercial events for the international watch community. Founded in 2015 by Ahmed Seddiqi & Sons – the region’s leading retailer of luxury watches and jewellery since 1950 – Dubai Watch Week provides an intimate environment for collectors, brands, watchmakers and members of the media to interact and share knowledge.

The Horology Forum – an original concept created by Dubai Watch Week – is an intellectual space comprised of free-flowing discussions between master craftsmen, captains of industry, visionaries and seasoned collectors. The pioneer of panel-led discussions within the watch industry, the Horology Forum gathers renowned leaders from their respective fields to interact in panels positioned to enlighten audiences and participants with their coveted insights and diverse opinions whilst dissecting the topic in question.

The criteria when selecting participants sets the Horology Forum apart in that they branch out across industries not necessarily tied to the world of horology. The common thread holding participants together is the level of passion and commitment to excellence shared.

In light of current events, the 6th edition of the Horology Forum will break with tradition and take place digitally, on the Dubai Watch Week YouTube platform. The panels will be pre-recorded and will air on 24th, 26th, 28th October and 9th November.

Hind Seddiqi, Director General of Dubai Watch Week commented: “We are delighted to announce the first online edition of the highly anticipated Horology Forum. Our objective of uniting the watch community and providing an educational platform is at the forefront of what we hope to achieve via this experience. We look forward to hosting our esteemed speakers and connecting with our audience around the world.”

Some new formats will also be introduced this year. Instead of moderators, panels will be led by individuals from the Dubai Watch Week Committee to play ‘Devil’s Advocate.’ As each panel airs, the audience will be able to pose their questions instantaneously by engaging in a live Q&A session through the comments on YouTube, with opportunity to submit follow up questions on social media in the days that follow.

Since the first edition, Dubai Culture & Arts Authority has remained the cultural partner of Dubai Watch Week. Christie’s, the world’s leading art business; also returns as a key partner for the 6th edition of the Horology Forum.

The full schedule including more information on panel topics and speakers is now available to view on the Dubai Watch Week website.
