Ulysse Nardin, “watchmaker of the oceans,” has partnered with French kitesurfer Alex Caizergues, the first person to surpass 100 km/h on the water by sail power. This is in addition to an impressive list of achievements to his name across all board sports, including the World Sailing Speed Kitesurfing record, with a run averaging 107.3 km/h over a distance of 500m. He will now be accompanied on the water by Ulysse Nardin’s Diver Deep Dive.
Alex is first and foremost a lover of adventure, both as an athlete and as a person. It is what drives him and gives him the strength to push past the limits. He says, “if it comes down to a choice between a session in a favourable mistral and a family lunch, I pick the kite. I live by the rhythm of the wind.” A life of adventure, however, is a life of sacrifices. “You have to give everything to stay in the race. And it gets harder and harder every year because the level just keeps going up.”
Alex’s antagonist is not just the competition and the elements but also the clock. “Time is crucial to me, and the synergy is real,” he states. To keep him on schedule, Ulysse Nardin have partnered Alex with their 46 mm Diver Deep Dive timekeeper; designed for extreme sports enthusiasts both under and on the water.
It features a blue dial covered by anti-glare sapphire glass. The bezel is large, made of titanium, and fitted with 12 notched teeth for easy manipulation. The detachable guard is also made of titanium. The leather strap is expandable and adjustable. The watch is water-resistant to a depth of 1,000 metres and has a helium valve. It is powered by the in-house UN-320 calibre with a 48-hour power reserve.
The dial is decorated with 15 sharks, plus another stamped onto the caseback, “to remind us that man only visits the oceans and that the sea belongs to the animals that inhabit it.” says the brand.
Ulysse Nardin Diver Deep Dive is limited to just 300 pieces.
