A one-off Nardo Grey Ferrari F40 “Competizione” – one of the most powerful road-going versions ever created – is on sale through Sotheby’s Sealed – RM Sotheby’s proprietary online auction platform. The car was to be offered via private sale, but after generating intense interest from clients and the car community around the world, it is now on sale via auction.
This particular 1989 Ferrari F40 “Competizione” was upgraded to full competition specification by racing specialists in Holland and the UK, giving the world’s fastest production car a rare chance to earn its keep on the track in period competition.
As part of a cosmetic restoration, the car was completely disassembled with the body fully stripped to its bare materials. The car was then repainted in triple-layer Grigio Nardo. Today, it is capable of producing between 700 and nearly 1,000 horsepower depending on setup, making this F40 one of the most thrilling Ferraris available anywhere.
The initial announcement of the 1989 Ferrari F40 “Competizione” private sale instantly gained the attention of media outlets around the world, car enthusiasts, social media users, and clients. After generating over 600,000 impressions on social media and with interest among potential buyers increasing, RM Sotheby’s was compelled to offer this incredible machine through their successful Sotheby’s Sealed online platform.
Since its unveiling, Sotheby’s Sealed has become a key online platform offering some of the world’s most significant cars to a growing global audience. In it, bidders are able to see where their current bid ranks, but will not know what anyone else has bid. There would be an auto-extension if a client ranked in the top three bids in the last 90 seconds of the auction. The auto-extend can also be triggered when a new bid causes the bidder to be ranked in the top three, even if the ranking doesn’t change. Bidders can register to bid here.
Since its inception, the platform has offered Juan Fangio’s personal Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, the fabled white Ferrari Enzo, an upcoming McLaren F1, and now the 1989 Ferrari F40 “Competizione.”
The F40 is widely viewed as one of the greatest road-going GT models built by Ferrari, and this example boasts a fascinating history, a unique configuration, and unrivalled performance among its peers. This F40 absolutely stands out.
