Dual Icons of Maranello: RM Sotheby’s Announces Two Ferrari F40 Highlights for Monterey 2025

A landmark auction moment is set to unfold this August as RM Sotheby’s brings two extraordinary Ferrari F40s to its 2025 Monterey sale. A testament to the enduring power of Enzo Ferrari’s final creation, the lineup includes a time-capsule 1990 Ferrari F40 with just 224 miles and a bespoke reimagining dubbed the “Blue Chip F40,” each offering a unique glimpse into the soul of a supercar that has transcended decades.

Revered for its unfiltered performance and razor-sharp design, the Ferrari F40 represents the final chapter of Enzo’s direct influence on the brand. The pairings at Monterey not only celebrate this lineage but also illustrate the expanding interpretation of what a modern classic can become—whether frozen in time or reimagined for the future.

The Time Capsule: 1990 Ferrari F40 “Non-Cat, Non-Adjust”

Delivered new by Hong Seh Motors in Singapore, chassis 84036 is among the rarest configurations of the F40: a European-specification model built without catalytic converters or adjustable suspension. Even more astounding is its untouched provenance—retained by its original owner for 35 years and driven just 360 kilometers (224 miles). This F40 has never been registered, shown, or even publicly exhibited, remaining quietly preserved in static storage since delivery.

Presented in original condition with an estimated sale price between $2,400,000 – $2,600,000 USD, this F40 offers collectors a once-in-a-generation chance to acquire a virtually new specimen of one of the most celebrated analog supercars ever built.

The Visionary Evolution: 1992 Ferrari “Blue Chip F40”

At the opposite end of the F40 spectrum stands chassis 94647, the “Blue Chip F40”—a bold and meticulously curated reimagining commissioned by its current owner and executed by Furlonger Specialist Cars in the UK. Originally delivered to Italy in 1992, this example retains its Ferrari Classiche Red Book certification while integrating modern upgrades that elevate its performance and design.

Finished in a breathtaking Azzurro Hyperion paint scheme, the car features a rare F40 LM racing gearbox, revised turbo wastegates, Tubi exhaust, KW adjustable suspension with front-axle lift, and massive Brembo GT brakes. Custom 18-inch center-lock wheels echo the original five-spoke style, giving the car a refined yet aggressive presence. Offered with its original gearbox, Red Book, warranty, and service documentation, the “Blue Chip F40” is estimated at $2,500,000 – $2,800,000 USD and represents a masterclass in respectful performance enhancement.

A Study in Contrast, United by Legacy

“We’ve handled many F40s over the years,” said Gord Duff, President of RM Sotheby’s, “but offering two distinctly different examples in one sale, one a 224-mile car from original ownership and the other a reimagined version with an LM gearbox and custom finish, shows just how broad the appeal of this model really is.”

Both F40s reflect the unique ways in which collectors connect with the icon—from purists who value untouched originality to modern enthusiasts drawn to bespoke craftsmanship and dynamic enhancements. What remains constant is the cultural and engineering significance of the F40, a car that continues to captivate generations.

These two automotive gems join a stellar RM Sotheby’s Monterey 2025 roster, including Ralph Lauren’s former Ferrari F50 and several historic Alfa Romeo competition cars, promising a collector car event of unmatched prestige and excitement.
