The Porsche Taycan Turbo GT has etched its name into motorsport history by setting the official production electric vehicle (EV) lap record at the iconic Yas Marina Circuit in Abu Dhabi. With a blistering time of 2:07.247 over the 5.281 km Grand Prix layout, the Taycan Turbo GT, driven by UAE-based GT racer Ramez Azzam, has become the fastest production EV to ever lap the circuit.
This latest accolade adds Yas Marina to a growing list of world-renowned racetracks—including the Nürburgring, Laguna Seca, Shanghai, and Interlagos—where the Taycan Turbo GT holds production lap records. The record attempt was officially sanctioned by the Yas Marina Circuit and Emirates Motorsport Organisation (EMSO), adhering to newly established global standards for production car lap records, including technical scrutineering and strict session regulations.

According to Azzam, the Taycan Turbo GT delivers an electrifying blend of control, power, and precision. “It reminds me of the 911 GT3 in terms of balance and feedback. But with the added torque and instantaneous throttle response of an EV, it becomes something even more potent,” he noted. The vehicle’s low centre of gravity, advanced aerodynamics, and race-bred chassis made it a formidable machine on every section of the track, particularly in the corners and on exit.
Engineered for ultimate track performance, the Taycan Turbo GT features a peak output of 1,108 PS (815 kW) with the Weissach package, enabling it to sprint from 0–100 km/h in just 2.2 seconds. Technologies borrowed from Porsche’s 99X Electric Formula E car, including Attack Mode for a 10-second power boost, as well as ceramic brakes and GT-specific suspension tuning, further enhance its dynamic capabilities. The Weissach package sheds 75 kg in weight and adds a fixed rear wing generating up to 220 kg of downforce.

Porsche’s approach to testing and verifying these lap records brings new credibility to production EV performance benchmarks. The Yas Marina run—overseen by EMSO officials including FIA veteran Fergus Lavers—complied with official timing and track limit rules, underscoring the Taycan Turbo GT’s legitimate standing as the world’s fastest production EV across multiple circuits.
As Porsche continues to redefine EV performance, the Taycan Turbo GT stands as a symbol of what electric mobility can achieve—uniting brute power, race-track precision, and production-line accessibility in one thrilling package.
With this achievement, Porsche reinforces its commitment to bridging motorsport heritage with the future of electric mobility. The Taycan Turbo GT exemplifies the brand’s ability to deliver uncompromising performance without sacrificing the essence of what makes a Porsche exhilarating to drive. From its aggressive acceleration to its seamless handling under pressure, the car proves that EVs are not only sustainable but also seriously competitive on the global racing stage.

The lap record is also a testament to Porsche’s transfer of Formula E innovations into road-ready applications. Attack Mode, for instance—first introduced in the 99X Electric race car—allows the Taycan Turbo GT to deploy up to 163 PS of additional power for 10 seconds, ideal for overtaking or shaving off precious tenths during a hot lap. This technology, combined with finely tuned aerodynamics and reduced unsprung mass from lightweight ceramic brakes, gives drivers tangible performance benefits once reserved for the racetrack.
Beyond raw numbers, the Taycan Turbo GT showcases the emotional and sensory thrill of driving an EV. It’s not just the instant torque or silence—it’s the harmony of engineering precision and driver feedback. From track days to everyday use, the Taycan embodies Porsche’s philosophy of never compromising on the joy of driving, no matter the powertrain. Its presence at Yas Marina—on a circuit known for high-speed straights and technical corners—demonstrates its versatility and control under demanding conditions.

As electric vehicles become more central to the performance car segment, Porsche continues to lead the charge with its unmistakable blend of heritage, innovation, and excellence. The Taycan Turbo GT’s dominance at Yas Marina marks another milestone in this journey—proof that the future of speed doesn’t just whisper; it roars.
