BMW M wrote a new chapter in its legacy of performance and precision as the all-new BMW M2 CS and BMW M3 CS Touring shattered lap records at the Nürburgring-Nordschleife. With exacting engineering, motorsport DNA, and relentless focus on dynamic excellence, both vehicles pushed the boundaries of what’s possible in their respective segments—compact and mid-size performance cars.
The BMW M2 CS, driven by BMW M’s development engineer and seasoned record-setter Jörg Weidinger, clocked a blistering lap time of 7:25.5 minutes on the Nordschleife’s 20.832-kilometre circuit. This makes it the fastest compact production car ever on the “Green Hell” and breaks the previous category record by a full eight seconds. For enthusiasts and engineers alike, this milestone isn’t just a numerical achievement—it’s a testament to the seamless blend of power, agility, and everyday usability.

“This record lap demonstrates what the BMW M2 CS stands for: performance, driving pleasure, and innovation,” said Franciscus van Meel, CEO of BMW M GmbH. “We’ve set a new benchmark that proves small doesn’t mean less capable—it means razor-sharp.”
Hot on its heels, the BMW M3 CS Touring followed with an equally monumental feat. With a lap time of 7:29.490 minutes, it became the fastest Touring model ever to tackle the Nürburgring. Built to combine racing heritage with everyday practicality, this mid-size powerhouse stunned by eclipsing its predecessor’s best by nearly six seconds. Weidinger once again demonstrated what BMW M’s vision of a true all-rounder looks like when unleashed on a track known for punishing mediocrity.

Van Meel adds: “From day one, we knew the BMW M3 CS Touring would set new standards. This record proves that you can have uncompromising dynamics and practical functionality in one breathtaking package.”
These lap times reflect the continuous evolution of BMW M’s engineering excellence. The BMW M2 CS beat its 2023 predecessor by a staggering 13 seconds, showcasing not just incremental improvements, but radical gains in aerodynamics, drivetrain tuning, and chassis precision. Meanwhile, the M3 CS Touring’s record makes it the fourth fastest production car from the M3/M4 family to lap the Nürburgring, trailing only the M4 CSL, M4 CS, and M3 CS—all coupe variants.
The beating heart of BMW M’s success on the Nordschleife is its BMW M Test Centre, located trackside for direct access to one of the world’s most unforgiving proving grounds. For over 25 years, BMW M has used this crucible of performance to refine and challenge its creations. Landmarks like the BMW M Power Grandstand, BMW M Bridge, and the redesigned M Power Showroom serve as symbols of this deep-rooted connection to the Nürburgring.

Whether it’s the thrilling agility of the compact M2 CS or the remarkable versatility of the M3 CS Touring, these record-breaking machines are not just designed to dominate tracks—they’re made for the passionate driver who refuses to compromise between road and race.
The records set in April 2025 are more than just victories on asphalt; they’re declarations of intent. BMW M continues to define the limits of performance with every curve, every gear shift, and every heartbeat spent at the wheel. In the world of high-performance vehicles, the Nordschleife doesn’t lie—and BMW M just raised the bar.
